Lesson for the new Edexcel 9-1 Combined Science GCSE looking at topic CC1 - States of Matter. This lesson includes: practical activity looking at collecting data to construct a cooling curve and using it to identify a substances melting point. Students will carry out a practical activity to determine the melting point of chocolate by constructing a cooling curve. Practical will require approximately 9g (one cube) of chocolate in a boiling tube with a thermometer per pair of students. The boiling tubes of chocolate must be placed in a water bath set at 70 degrees Celsius in order to be molten before the start of the lesson.
