The new framework for the early years foundation stage describes the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning as: Playing and exploring: children investigate and experience things and ‘have a go’; Active learning: children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements; Creating and thinking critically: children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things. This observation overview uses the statements from Development Matters 2020. It has been designed to record observations over the year, to give practitioners an overview of how each child learns. The statements from Development Matters 2020 are on each sheet, alongside a space for adults to record their observations of the child. They are colourful and match the Characteristics posters that I have made.

A great tool to get your reception children reading. Learn one line at a time using the bookmarks. Once confident the child can be tested on the one page containing high frequency words. (Different order for words, same colour order) Finally a certificate awarding their learning.

Girls love LOL so here is a LOL one page profile to use with any SEN children. Use the plank parts to insert names and photos of the child. This can be used to support the child within class, showing their specific needs, and from their point of view. It makes it very personal to the child.

Here is a spiderman one page profile to use with SEN children. It is a useful one page sheet sharing information about a specific child for anyone working with them.

Here is a really useful sheet to use for any SEND children. This supports them with transition and within class, so anyone working with them knows a bit more info about them, from the child’s perspective.

This resource is useful for when a child starts reception. It allows parents to fill in honestly things their child can do. I found it especially helpful for new children starting & the children enjoyed filling it with their parents.

Here is a useful document used for new parents. It is to be filled with useful information about your child’s class, school, day etc… I found this really helpful at the start of a new year.

This is a super resource for any child that is starting Reception or Pre school. It allows the parent to complete information about their child, so when they start you know something about them.
