A timeline for student to fill in during or after completeion of the Edexcel GCSE Elizabeth 1558-1588 course.

This is a whole lesson introducing long and short term causes of the English Civil War. My students struggled with what long and short term causes were so this lesson uses a clip from 'Benjamin Button' to give the students a visualisation and then gets them to come up with their own definitions to make it really clear.

This activity requires sudents to complete sentence starters by finding the end on the other side of the table. I have had weaker students so this in pairs with it already cut out in an envelope. For higher ability students, remove some of the infromation from both columns and get them to fill the missing information in.

A worksheet for students to fill in before the controlled assessment that gets students to think about key events and how they are linked together. The events can easily be changed for the students own enquiry events

Ideal as a starter to recap previous learning. The words are not provided on the sheet to avoid any guessing by the students.

This activity is to get the students creating mind maps to help them with their revision. I have quite a lot of visual learners in my class and they had to first look at the pictures and work out which sheet referred to which time period (2.mindmaps). Then what each picture was referring to. The students put the pictures onto a mind map with information about the event next to it. The student’s then used their RAG to find their own pictures and complete the rest of the mind map. For good measue there is also an exam question.

Students have to sort out the facts and put them into the correct column for the three men. Used as a starter after they have covered all three men

I have a massive range of ability in my class and this is a resource that helped to push my weaker students to think about events being linked together and push my higher ability students in exploring links and coming to an overall judgment. This can be adapted for individual students, this one was given to the middle ability range in my group.

This is a revision lesson put together for year 13 sitting from Kaiser to Fuhrer for Edexcel. This session focusses in on what is needed to be successful in section B of the exam and gets students to extract key points from the text and combine it with their own knowledge and then organise into factors. This activity uses a question from the Edexcel textbook.

This activity will give students the ability to answer the question for themselves using sources and recording their findings onto the grid. Works well as an introduction to the topic.
