I use this with my Changing Places PowerPoint (on sale here) as a quick activity to get them thinking (images on PPT)

This Powerpoint has details of the SDME, exam strategy, sustainability, lots of use of past papers/lesson ideas. My students do very well in this exam. The Powerpoint isn't the most organised/slick but you can adapt it to make a few strong lessons for the SDME. The one I focus on is building up the skills over time gradually in the lesson in groups/pairs and then the following lesson approaching the 16 marker which is then peer marked. It would be useful to buy my SDME booklet with this resource!

This is an instruction sheet and checklist for everything they need to know in this section to study through your local place. I got pupils to create a personalised project for this part of the spec. Some of their work was fantastic. I told them they didn't need to cover the entire table since there is so much in there. Pupils uploaded their projects to share with each other after they were marked. I gave them a few lessons in computer rooms plus a few homeworks and study periods. This project is about Twickenham but you can change the name of your local place study.

I gave pupils this outline activity sheet and assigned them each a section of the spec to make a class presentation. I'll be honest it's shameful teaching because it's a part of the spec I at the time couldn't go through in so much detail so it was a bit of pupil-centred learning/research! Some of the presentations were great though. I sent it as an example to AQA of how difficult I was finding teaching the unit and they replied with an answer to each of the points in my activity! Quite amusing and actually pretty useful document!

I also have packs for the Rivers and Coasts and Natural Hazards. In all honesty, these are the least polished of the three but they still do the trick! I print all the cards off as one pack.

This resource includes 16 of my top tips for doing well in the GEOG4b exam on June 9th. You can adapt it to fit in with your own students or just press print! I am expected excellent results this year.. I am Head of Geography in one of the top state schools in the country.

They create one really good perfect one and then use that as the master sheet to go back on when they try another grid again!

This is the PowerPoint I use for about 50 students in a classroom for Easter revision session which lasts two hours at least. It is 51 slides long and includes revision tips, case study stuff, geographical skills work, past questions, recapping key terms etc. I am going to admit it's not my best work since there's a lot of slides of just exam papers/mark schemes in there and it's not got the aesthetics of my usual work. It did the job and it's still worth £3 since there are 4 or so really good slides in there where I have written full mark answers myself and you could print them off for pupils..). If you're a good teacher you can use this as a base for revision lessons rather than re-inventing the wheel and get good outcomes. I also have a better one for SDME revision and also 'tips for doing well' which I'm quite proud of and will upload it soon!

I use this PPT to guide through with pupils how to succeed in the OCR B Key Themes (and to some extent SDME) papers - It is based on my experience of how pupils do well (and not well) in exams from using papers I have called back, as well as my mock papers...I am charging £6 because it uses my experience/knowledge of the exam. 75% of my pupils got an A/A* (state school!) There are 11 top tips, some starter activities, example answer, example A* place specific detail, example student answer, past case study questions etc. You could print the top tips out for pupils if you wish. There are 31 slides. It would take you at least one lesson.

This resource should last around 3-4 lessons. There are 137 slides with quizzes etc. This is one of my best resources. My students typically do the best in this topic out of the four themes (75% A/A*). Great revision for SDME knowledge especially the Part A and B... also have some SDME resources on offer inc. my SDME booklet you may find helpful for improving grades quickly. It has been made using the specification and past questions and includes pretty much the whole topic - especially stuff students struggle with e.g. The DTM, population pyramids, case study examples. There are fun activities in there which are specifically designed to cover the spec. I have written notes in the notes slides here and there to help explain how I teach it. It includes plenaries to use post-its for how to move pupils forward the next lesson. The A3 sheet is great for pupils' settlement knowledge The only extra thing you may wish to do is to print some past questions off and stick them in the centre of an A3 page 1 between 2 (have written this on the slide notes).

This is a 13 page booklet which I made to prepare my year 11s for this year's Sustainable Decision-making Exam (SDME). Our students do very well in this exam each year. I am HoD in a top state school. I get between 55-75% A-A* each year, depending on students I have of course! It includes Tips and advice for how to do well All past question styles for all papers Command words Tips for developing a point with examples How to do well in the 16 mark essay including a very handy acronym for them to remember Examples of past questions and markschemes for Pop and Settlement Examples of student papers we called back A full mark example of an essay and finally... a checklist. I print this in pale yellow as a booklet - they're very grateful! We go through it individually and as a class and then practice past papers using what the tips they have just learnt. I give them a paper to complete as a pair or three too afterwards which works really well.

This is a 12 page booklet/worksheets to improve students' 40 mark essay answers. It includes all past questions for World Cities and Development and Globalisation, planning sheet, Waste management plan I made for them (v. detailed as it was their first one so it very prescriptive for what to include), checklist for a top essay, reflection sheet, mark scheme. You could adapt it for your own teaching. Last year some of my students scored over 30/40 in their essays...not an easy feat!

These lessons are designed to inspire and engage pupils with this sub-topic. I use it for A Level World Cities AQA as well as OCR GCSE and AQA AS level new spec. Students really enjoy these lessons. You can adapt them or use it for up to 3 lessons. I have written some notes to make it easier to teach/to sound more expert. I will create a bundle with the worksheets all pasted into one pack :)
