Descriptive Statistics - Types of data and choosing a statistical test for psychological research.

(0)
This is a lesson and a set of student resources in one. The background slide gives the lesson the context then there is a mnemonic to enable students to learn and recall the types of data in psychological research. This is followed by a flowchart diagram showing how to choose the correct statistical test. Finally there is a partially filled task to show students how to decide on which data and test to use to be applied to existing studies they have covered, or for them to design their own research. All the slides should be printed and used in a tutorial style interactive lesson.

Debates and Approaches In Psychology. One power point with accompanying student handout.

The resource has 3 sections, the power point gives an overview to be used in a lesson/tutorial, it contains information about why students need to know and be able to write about debates and approaches in psychology. Teachers can work through it as a whole group or students use the handout to complete each slide. The handout gives detailed explanations of the debates and approaches in psychology, students use this to complete the power point slides. Teachers can vary how they use these resources. The 3rd resource is simply some prompt posters to support writing longer answers in the A level exam.

These can be used in all kinds of ways, you could print onto coloured card, cut up and get students to match up the main critic’s point with the explanation. You could also cut them up and give one part to students, then get students to reconstruct the sheet.

DIY student experiment in chunking

(0)
This lesson is designed to take student through the chunking experiment that links to capacity and duration in the MSM. It has full instruction to explain how to get started and a printable results table for students to gather the raw data. It provides a good opportunity to link in to research methods and develop student’s understanding of and ability to write about how research in psychology works. It is accompanied by a help sheet for students to write up the experiment once they’ve carried it out. This could be given as a homework task following the DIY lesson. Both these resources link to pages 125-126 of the new spec (OCR)textbook. Finally, the homework sheet can be easily adapted for use on writing up any of the other student DIY tasks (now for some maths!)

Multi Store Model of Memory - A Lesson that should follow the teaching of this theory.

(0)
This works to revise the theory and has a quick recap then the main task is for students to work in pairs on reconstructing the diagram of the MSM. The blank diagram is for students and should be printed and enlarged to A3. The idea is that students are allowed to “peep” at the original which is fully annotated, then take turns to build up their copy with the correct descriptions of the components of this theory. At the end of the power point there are 2 slides that can be differentiated in lots of ways to support independent writing about the theory.

These 2 worksheets support students to plan and write about Piaget's stage theory and conservation study. One has partially written sentences, students then complete the answer to develop their exam skills on the 13 mark question. The other is about Piaget's stage theory and can be used as a writing frame for students to use with notes to develop extended writing or as an assessment after studying Piaget's stage theory.

Evaluating Bickman

(0)
The starter activities link to research methodology and get students to think critically about questionnaires. Then this lesson follows on from the core study. It allows you to teach the main weaknesses of the study and ask students how they can expand on them. Students should then try out a 13 mark question or write about how the study could be improved.
