Making Maths Memorable

Average Rating4.26
(based on 50 reviews)

Ever since my PGCE I have been convinced that every Maths topic has a unique and interesting way to be taught. 7 years later and I have collected and created 100s of resources to prove my point. All resources, including IB and A Level, are designed to be thoroughly engaging but yet cover every bit of content required with plenty of practise too. Teach LCM with the life of the Cicada bugs or teach proportions using celebrity faces and the golden ratio. All fully animated engaging powerpoints.

I have split the entire course into 10 lessons (content includes much more!). Each lesson includes a bank of exam questions related to the topics with answers; a PowerPoint; Extra questions; and a 20 minute test. The tests are written from the "Extra questions" so be aware if you are using the "Extra Questions" in class. Easily more than 10 lessons worth but use it as you choose. I revised one lesson, tested (and peer marked) the next lesson and began the revision for the following section. *** 100s of exam questions *** *** 10 revision lesson PowerPoints *** *** 10 mini tests ***

Fun Logic puzzles (Bongard problems)

Created by professor Bongard to test peoples ability to recognise patterns. Students of all abilities seem to enjoy these. Students need to recognise what the pictures on the left have in common in which the pictures on the right do not.

3D coordinates

3D coordinates

It took some time to create the 3D alphabet coordinates grid but it works brilliantly to introduce the 3rd dimension in coordinates. The lesson and worksheets advance to using a coordinate grid more like those found the the GCSE exam.
Correlation and scatter plots

Correlation and scatter plots

This resource can be spread over 2 or 3 lessons depending how deep you want to go into correlation. Lesson 1 will cover the basics. I use lesson 2 in the PowerPoint more like a mini project but can be skipped if required. Lesson 3 is more based on higher level thinking trying to find the equations of lines of best fits and use extrapolation.

I have written a number of mini tests to fit perfectly on to one sheet of A4 (I actually print them 2 to a page so A5!). These tests can be completed and peer marked in the same lesson and will be reused by you many many times over the years. Really easy to mark due to the layout of the test paper and the markschemes included. If you would like editable copies please comment with an email address and I will send you the originals.

Over 80 handmade Maths and logic puzzles

I collect puzzles! From books, games etc and remake them myself on PowerPoint. This is my collection so far after 7 years teaching. I hate predictable and generic puzzles and so this a collection of my favourites.
Solving equations

Solving equations

A few lessons to introduce and practise solving equations. Having taught using many different methods to solve equations I have settled for the magic bridge method (float and ping). It is understood quickly and clearly and creates skills to be carried forward to more advanced maths. Resource includes step by step methods, practice exercises, a differentiated fun code breaking worksheet and an end of topic test that can be completed and peer marked in a lesson.
The Lockdown Maths Quiz

The Lockdown Maths Quiz

A quiz built from my “End of Year Maths Quiz Builder” resource. I used Teams to share my screen with the students and instructed them to make their own mini groups on Teams just in text conversation so they can discuss answers. Keep track of scores using the Excel spreadsheet and be ready to send files to students for different rounds. It was a little time consuming but I got students to send their answers to me and then I sent them out to other teams for marking between each round. Good luck and stay safe!

Easy lessons to pull out when you haven't quite found the time to plan something. Lessons that add to their mathematical knowledge but can easily be slotted in mid topic. Some of these work perfectly for end of term lessons when students ask "Are we going to do something fun today?"
