An introduction to the poem London by William Blake. Designed and taught as an introduction to the poem on the AQA, GCSE poetry cluster ‘power and conflict’. This lesson introduces the poems main themes and supplys modern day equivalents to aid understanding. Begins with a discussion about who has power within society before looking at an image as a discussion point and reading through the poem answering questions for each stanza before finishing with a short summary of the poem to be written by students, making use of their previous answers and developing an idea of what the poem means to them.

Lesson looks at how Dickens presents the character of Marley looking at the importance of certain images and a set by step guide to help students develop their own analysis of Marley. Lesson finishes with a model paragraph to show students how to answer the question on a GCSE Literature paper. Sentence starters supplied at the end to help LPA students.

An introductory lesson to the Romantics and the writers of the late 18th century. We look at the connections we can make between ourselves and those writers with links to major events currently happening in the world. Taking a poem from Wordsworth to Toussaint L’Overture and culminating in the class writing their own ‘Romantic’ poem about a big issue happening in the world at the moment.
