Finding the difference in length

Using the concept of lengths of snakes, I used jelly snakes alongside these activities to engage the children, activities to encourage children to find the difference between two lengths. For lower achieving pupils is an activity for them to use non standard units to compare the lengths of the snakes. For higher achieving pupils, they are required to measure in centimetres and find the difference in centimetres. Terms of use Copyright © Beth Cook. All rights reserved by the author. There are two differentiated phonics activities for children to complete. They have sentences from the story and have to identify the different sounds they can see in the sentences and then they have following activities to develop their understanding of the sounds. There is also an activity for children to sort the real and fake words and put them into a grid. All activities and resources are linked to the story of the three little pigs. Phonics resources linked to the much loved film - children need to investigate different sounds and locate them in the sentences. Differentiated sentences and phonics sounds for the different abilities in your class. To provide an exciting opportunity for writing is a character profile prompt writing sheet to encourage children to write a detailed description. Linked to the topic is also a Shrek poem as in class we were looking at finding rhyming words. Children were able to work together and write two rhyming sentences to continue to the poem. The concept of doubling and halving is consolidated through the activities through the theme of Easter. There are three different levels for the activity: - the LA have small Easter eggs to double and halve amounts and complete in a grid. -the MA and HA have different numbers to double and halve (HA more challenging) Children can use a range of practical resources to support them through the activities. Writing Assessment tracker

Writing Assessment tracker

I have made this resource following the recent release of the exemplification materials for end of key stage 2 writing. The resource contains a tracker sheet for the three different standards - working towards expected, working at expected and working within a greater depth of the expected standard. I plan on using the tracker sheets across a term to assess different pieces of writing against the standards so that I can see who is on track for the end of the year. I will use these sheets to inform my planning to cover areas that children are missing to ensure they reach the expected standard. This resource will also help me when others moderate my writing! The row on the tracker sheet underneath the letters is so that you can record the different genres you have assessed to show that each child can write in a range of genres for different purposes. Shrek doubling and halving board game

A Shrek doubling and halving board game as an opportunity for your children to consolidate their understanding of doubling and halving in a fun and engaging way. I have used two levels of this game, for the lower ability children they have less on their board game. When playing this, children work really well together supporting and encouraging each other. For the lower achieving pupils I also use practical resources to help with doubling and halving. Terms of use Copyright © Beth Cook. All rights reserved by the author. Living things - Science

For the topic in the National Curriculum - Living things. One of the activities is for children to sort the pictures of living and non-living things into the correct categories. There is a powerpoint to promote discussion about what is living and non living and how we know. There is an activity for children to explore the food that wild animals eat, which could lead to further discussion and activities, This could be introduced by the pictures that are attached of animal's habitats and the children need to guess which animal lives there and explain how they know. India - Geography activities

I have used these resources while having India as a class topic. The map and weather symbols are for children to think about what the weather would be like in the different regions after completing their own research. Children used the pictures of the different types of weather to produce some creative/descriptive writing around our topic. The weather report format worked really well in supporting children to write their own weather reports about a different area of India. The pictures of the different houses allowed for great discussions between the children about the similarities and differences between different homes in India and around the world. SATs revision on word classes for Key Stage 2

SATs revision on word classes for Key Stage 2

(2)
I have made a 40 slide power point document focusing on revision for year 6 children for the dreaded SATs! Each slide looks at a different word class for children to identify within a sentence. Included are: nouns, verbs, prepositions, adverbs, adjectives, conjunctions, articles and determiners. The answers are also included so children can mark their own work and see where the errors are. I will be using this resource in the run up to SATs to ensure the children are confident with identifying the different word classes as a daily revision guide focusing on one word class per day. I will work through each slide, children writing down the sentence and circling the needed words and then we will discuss and mark as a class. I will note down the word classes children still find difficult. I hope you enjoy this resource and it is a useful tool for you! Included is the document as a PowerPoint and PDF form. Ancient Greece/ Greek Myths

Ancient Greece/ Greek Myths

These are resources that I have used throughout a whole topic on Ancient Greece. I started off the topic by looking at the timeline of Ancient Greece and then we looked at the physical features that can be found in Greece, this lead to children completing independent research. Attached also are all of the resources that I have used during a half term on building up to write a Greek myth. We looked at two Greek myths to understand the structure of them. The children then thought about how the character's would have felt and then we looked at the different settings and what would have happened if the settings had been different. The children then moved onto starting to look at writing their own myths, they looked at possible characters and settings and built up to writing their own Greek myths.
