Sound Learning

Average Rating4.75
(based on 4 reviews)

I have been teaching for 30 years. Ten of those years were as a headteacher in a primary school, and 15 as SENCo. I started off with a PhD in biochemistry and transferred to primary teaching. I have qualifications in SEN and in teaching dyslexic pupils. For the past 3 years I have been a learning support teacher in the Netherlands. What I offer here are resources that I wish I had at an earlier date. I hope they are useful.

Part 1 - helps children to link the sounds of the letters to pictures. Uses these sounds to make words and reinforces the words with pictures. Repetition and reinforcement help to promote reccall. Part 2 - Repetition of the letter sounds. The pictures are then shown and the children have a short time to write them down before they see them.

The third video shows illustrated sentences and gives the pupil tie to memorise them before challenging them to write the same sentence in 30 seconds.

Using decodable words from letters and sounds this set of three powerpoints teaches segmenting and blending, spelling, reading and sentence writing. Some responses are timed. I made these as a series of phonic inputs for children needing learning support in English. They would be equally useful for EAL pupils
