A great thinking skills activity. Children to decide which is the odd one out from 3 given pictures, and explain their reasoning. I used this from Year 1 up as an early morning activity and also time filler. Children should be reminded that there are no wrong answers as long as their answer can be justified. I have heard some amazing ideas during this activity - enjoy!

This resource contains 5 slides with wordsearches based on different parts of speech (prepositions of place, common nouns, action verbs and adjectives. The aim is for the students to find the words based on the picture/animation. This resource can be used as a recap, time filler or can be used in combination with the ‘What is Missing?’ resource available in my shop. These resources ca be used to support the teaching of personification in poetry. I used these resources with a Year 3 class however they could be used up to Year 5.

Children will use this frame to help them develop ideas about a new character. I used this after the children created characters using the 'draw, fold and switch' method. They stuck their characters onto the sheet and then wrote details about the character they had created. There are 3 different versions of the sheet - a really fun way to promote creative, detailed writing.

A letter from the tooth Fairy, used as a launch for informal letter writing as part of a teeth and healthy eating topic. Used with Year 3 but could be used across KS1 and Lower KS2. The tooth fairy "visited" the classroom while the children were in assembly and left this along with a lot of fairy dust!!

Children generate adjectives, similes and metaphors from a range of picture prompts. Resource can be used as a follow up to whole class teaching. I used these as part of a poetry unit in Year 3.

A simple version of the classic game made to reinforce the phase 3 sounds. This can be a teacher led activity or independent reinforcement for more able children. A fun way to practise phonics!

A writing booklet template for writing about weekend news. Includes section for drawings. I used this with Year/Grade 1 on a Monday as one of the writing activities.

A warm up activity to briefly assess understanding or knowledge gained. Children circle the time connectives/temporal words or phrases, from a selection given. Children then add their own examples below. I used this with Grade 1 but can be used from reception/Kinder up to 3, as an introductory or end of unit quick assessment.

A notebook resource used to support the teaching of causal connectives.

This is a cut and paste activity. Children will be given colour coded cause and effect sentences, which they should unscramble and paste in their books. Children will then shade the cause in one colour and the effect in another. I had the sentences pre-cut and in envelopes (1 set for each child). As the sentences are colour coded this worked well and also gave the children a chance to revise their knowledge of sentences e.g. starting with a capital etc. This activity was used for a LA group in Year 3 but could be used in many different ways, including pre_assessment of cause and effect, or end of unit assessment. The children really enjoyed the activity.

This is a PowerPoint presentation I made to teach the past participle. It includes the past participle (past perfect, present perfect), using the past participle as an adjective, as well as revision on the simple past (regular and irregular), types of adjectives (OSASCOMP), simple, compound and complex sentence practice.
