Primary Teacher and English Lead. Here you will find a range of lessons, plays and assessments I have effectively used in my school- I'm hoping they will help you in your everyday teaching or the implementation of a new English initiative. I wouldn't upload anything I haven't tried and tested myself so I hope they save you plenty of time!

Leavers Assembly

GoggleBox style leavers assembly. Adapted for my school but easily adaptable. Includes some laughs, memories and a few tears throughout! Parents loved it when we performed it and the children really enjoyed getting into role. I sat down and discussed funny things that happened to them at school for the ‘life of mammals section’ so it is worth doing- they have great ideas!

Greater Depth Writing Targets Years 1,3,4 and 5

(0)
Greater Depth Writing targets for years 1,3,5 and 6. Years 2 ad 6 use statutory guidance. Targets are used to stretch the GDS children in writing, they match the stautory guidance for years 2 and 6 and look to either build on from them or build up to these.

Sex education/ growing up talk. Year 5/6

(0)
Three Power Points and two activities regarding growing up and the changes which will happen to their bodies. Very detailed Power Points which can be adapted- however they were put together using the expectations from the NC as well as advice from our school nurse to ensure it adhered to the NHS guidelines. Definitely more of a growing up talk opposed to sex-ed due to the current curriculum and what we are currently expected to inform our children of, that said it still goes into the pubic area and all of the changes which will happen. Tried and tested over the past couple of years and it definitely does the job.

A lesson with ideas for activities- resources provided at the end of the PP. Looking at the main aspects of the Mayan's daily routines- the lesson format is that children research one aspect, teach it to their rest of the group and then complete a question at the end. Fantastic speaking and listening opportunities.

Primary Writing Assessment ARE and Greater Depth Years 1-6

(0)
The Writing objectives: • link to the end of year and key stage expectations set out in the 2014 National Curriculum; • are cross referenced with Key Performance Indicators for each year group • include additional targets that have been developed to ensure high expectations and year on year progression (focussing on narrative writing and punctuation); • are used by teachers regularly to assess what a pupil can do and identify what a child needs to work on to improve; • provide the basis for teacher assessment each half term; • are used when a child has completed an independent piece of writing; • are used to demonstrate the progress a pupil makes across the year. Greater Depth Targets introduces so that children can be pushed to include some the of the GDS targets outlined in the stautory guidance for 2 and 6. Note- Years 2 and 6 follow stautory guidance.

General Election 2017

(0)
A lesson looking at this year's General Election. It starts with an interactive 'who is who' and moves onto the five key parties: Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem, UKIP and Green. I have selected a few of the key policies and attempted to make them more child friendly. I have focused on education, health, housing and a summary of key policies. Children will then gather information on one party and take it in turns to teach each other so that every child has information on each party- excellent speaking and listening opportunities. Children to then answer three questions and we will hold an in class general election to see who the winner would have been.

Commas starter

A simple presentation looking at how to correctly use commas. My year 6's initially struggled to get commas in the correct places during extended pieces of writing, this PP was used as a whiteboard activity and seems to have done the job.
