I create a range of resources aimed at primary aged children; most frequently upper KS2. My passion is teaching mathematics, my specialist subject area. I have two aims: To create fun resources which inspire children To create mathematicians, not robots! I believe great teaching, specifically with mathematics, should aim to teach children the underlining methods which children can apply to take initiative of their own learning! Comparing 12 hour time lesson, differentiated group activity sheets and powerpoint

Comparing 12 hour time lesson, differentiated group activity sheets and powerpoint

(0)
This is a lesson which teaches how to work out the differences in time on a 12 hour clock. It is pitched at Lower KS2 and is perfect for Years 3 and 4. It has a 29 page PowerPoint which clearly demonstrates how to work out the differences between times on a 12 hour clock using a scaffolded approach. There is then a fun, differentiated group activity where the children must solve various questions focusing on differences between times. Also, each sheet contains a problem solving extension. Their answers will correspond to a secret code which can be revealed for each group at the end of the activity using the PowerPoint. I have also included a lesson plan which I recommend using when teaching this lesson. I have used it several times now and it has been a great success! The children absolutely love defeating my mathematics villain, Dr Doom. Please rate and provide me with feedback. Similar Dr Doom (and other resources) are available in my shop. Please check it out using the link below. Happy learning :) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
Year 5/ 6 SPaG test (Test one)

Year 5/ 6 SPaG test (Test one)

This is a test I created which will provide information in your children's progress in these upper KS2 targets: 1. Identifying and using the passive voice 2. Modal verbs 3. Identifying and using relative clauses 4. Using apostrophes for possession and contractions 5. Using commas for various reasons 6. Using hyphens for compound adjectives 7. Using semicolons and extending sentences with semicolons and related main clauses. The test is out of 32 and is aimed to diagnose errors to aid future learning whilst also evidencing and checking children's current understanding. The test comes with a marking scheme. Materials - Year 5 unit of work - All plans and resources including assessment.

This is seven lessons worth of work. Each lesson is directly related to the national curriculum’s objectives for the Year 5 unit of materials. The unit comes complete with an end-of-unit quiz (including mark scheme) to test the children’s understanding. I designed all the lessons myself to include: Cross-curricular writing (2 built-in extended writing opportunities) Maths (Venn diagrams, line graphs and reference to volume) Scientific work (nearly every lesson involves an experiment / activity) Scientific vocabulary, including references to variables, particularly controls for fair testing. I decided to add this resource as it worked extremely well with my class, the children enjoyed it and it allowed me to evidence and teach so much of the curriculum as you can see above. All lesson plans, presentations and resources are included. PLEASE NOTE - A lot of these lessons require extra-resources which your school most likely already have such as graph paper, and stop watches, scientific paper etc. Some lessons do require the teacher to buy resources (all of which will be cheap) such as Rice Krispies and chocolate (a lesson on reversible changes) and others. Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

(0)
This is a challenging activity where children must use their problem solving and reasoning skills to solve perimeter, area and volume questions. It worked exceptionally well with my Y5 class and the horse racing theme really inspired the children! This activity works best over a whole lesson and I like to put the children into mixed ability groups. Some of the questions are quite challenging (although it doesn’t deviate from the national curriculum in anyway) which makes it ideal for Y5 and 6 children; it could also be used in a lower KS3 setting as a fun way to recap on perimeter, area and volume. This pack includes the activity, a question sheet and a powerpoint which not only gives the correct answers but explains each step visually for the children - this makes it ideal for the children to self-assess and provide on-the-spot feedback to the whole class once the activity has been completed. I’d be grateful if you could review the resources and please see my shop for other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
