A series of tutor time activities for a year 9 cohort on Mindsets

This is a series of activities which help students think about their future as they progress from Key Stage 3 into Key Stage 4. It can be completed over the first two weeks of Key Stage 4 as form time activities. It looks at such issues as organisation, leadership, school references, study skills, emotional intelligence, intelligence in itself, learning styles and their future. Handouts are included on the one long PowerPoint so all resources are in one place. They can be printed or just used electronically.

This is a range of activities which help students Tidy their books Respond to marking Reflect on progress. You will have to change the pen colours according to your school’s marking policy.

This assembly looks at how Tanni Gray Thompson didn't let her disability stop her achieving Olympic goal. It looks at the theme of determination as well as touching on the need for an inclusive society.

Road safety (crossing, use of mobile phone, blind bends), bike safety (being visible)and wearing brighter clothes with some short video clips.

This assembly looks at the dark evenings, the clothes we wear (visibility, bike visibility and how looking and listening can save our lives. It includes an audience participation song at the end which may seem fun/silly but will help the children to remember the key safety message from the assembly.

This resources looks at how to ‘change the script’ in the classroom. If what we are doing isn’t working, we need to change it. There is a staff activity based on a conversation between the teacher and students and top tips on changing the script.

It looks at tax and how much money students will have to earn to afford the lifestyle they want. Lots of calculations as you go! For a ‘dry’ topic, this is an interesting set of activities and important for students to know as we all had no idea when we left school about tax, mortgages and bills!

It is something we never get trained in - how do new teachers know how to phone parents? Yet, it is one of the most effective interventions we can do to get students back on track.

A pro-active letter with the aim of empowering parents in supporting their children through GCSEs

Works for any subject. Have 'stations' around the room. Fold the 'title' of revision activity in half so each station is labelled. Then each handout gives different guidance on how to complete that particular revision activity. All you need for resources is A3 for the mind maps, colours and revision cards. It gives detailed advice on how to complete such activities as active reading (i.e. not just passivly reading or copying notes).

This provides scaffolding for students writing witness accounts of incidents around the school or for victim & perpetrator. It helps us know clearly where incidents took place, who witnessed it and includes a reflection part for a student to learn from the incident.
