The current Edexcel chemistry syllabus has 16 Core practical laboratory exercises and a number of other practical activities. There is no practical exam as such but there are many practically based questions on the theory papers which are closely related to the skills and knowledge acquired in the laboratory. This resource consists of 16 Core laboratory exercises which are similar or equivalent to the designated ones and a number of activities which are again similar or equivalent. Each practical exercise contains a list of requirements for setting it up to aid a laboratory technician, suitable references and notes which also contain links to related videos and a suggested (but not official!) hazard assessment sheet. It also contains instructions on procedure and experimental results (in red) and answers (in red) to any questions given plus a suggested mark scheme. Graphs are either shown as an embedded Excel graph or a photocopy of a sample of actual results. The practical can be printed out for use by the students with the answers either deleted or blanked out. The appendix is designed to give background information with respect to practical chemistry and contains a summary of the chemistry of the most common inorganic cations and anions for use in their identification. It also contains information about how to use mathematics in chemistry and the use of significant figures.
