Euro 2016 Non-Fiction Writing

A power point and accompanying booklet aimed at developing writing for a range of non-fiction purposes including information, explanation, instruction, recount, persuasion and argument. Activities include reading examples and identifying features of the different purposes, planning own writing with a range of tasks to choose from, independent writing, peer assessment and improvement all with a football theme. Booklet was created using Microsoft Publisher but, following some feedback, I have also adapted it into a Word document for anyone without Publisher.

Year 9 Introduction to GCSE English

A booklet of independent projects aimed at preparing Year 9 for the transition into Year 10 and starting their GCSEs in English. The original idea was to issue this to Year 9 learners for use in option subjects which they would not be continuing with into Year 10, therefore projects are designed to be independently completed but checked by English teachers/form tutors, etc. There are seven projects in total: Independent Reading, Narratives, Poetry, Drama, Non-Fiction, Media and Skills and each one includes both reading and writing tasks.

Macbeth Storyboard Homework project

A booklet aimed at getting Y9 to understand the characters and plot of Macbeth through a homework project from over a school holiday/series of weeks. Booklet includes a storyboard of Macbeth where the plot has been provided, but learners have to add the pictures. It also has a page which shows all the main characters (for them to draw pictures) and a blank front cover for them to design a suitable cover. Also included is a landscape version of the storyboard with comprehension questions at the end of Act Two, Four and Five.

Using the theme of a military operation briefing, there is space to provide details of previous assessments, group targets and individual targets as well as space for dates of mock and external exams. A useful way of focusing Y11s on what they need to do in order to succeed. Originally devised as a resource for GCSE English, but could be adapted for any subject or any year group. Resource includes a Publisher and a Powerpoint version with both a partially completed example and a completely blank one for you to personalise. A Christmas Carol: Scrooge's Chain

A lovely lesson looking at Scrooge's character at the beginning of the novel, identifying quotations and developing PEE paragraphs. Learners use PEE to build a paper-chain of Scrooge's bad deeds similar to Marley's Ghost's chain in the novel, which can then be used as a classroom display and referred to as part of revision work.
