A detailed and editable booklet that takes the classic kitchen roll investigation and provides a structured approach that will guide students through the different stages of researching, planning and carrying out an accurate and reliable investigation. In the investigation students will test the claims of a variety of different kitchen rolls brands either on their strength or absorbency. Students then use free learning (discovery) to design their own tests to gather evidence for these claims. NOTE: The kitchen rolls used for this were purchased from Sainsburys and are easily source able but any 5 different brands will do and can be easily changed in the booklet. Resource includes: Approx 2-3 hours of lesson time 1. Introduction to the investigation 2. Preliminary test and planning guide 3. Advice on graph drawing for both scatter and bar charts 4. General analysis questions as well as directed questions specific to the investigation 5. Success Criteria for scientific skills and self assessment 6. Targets and teacher assessment 7.
