Children will learn the model text using the picture map, before practicing how to create a great title, question hooks and using planning and research templates to create their own.
A complete 3/4 week unit on castle setting descriptions using the five senses as a focus. This is a magical and engaging unit which promotes lovely descriptive writing with a focus on adjectives and noun phrases.

Children will learn what a setting is, the five senses, parts of castle, adjectves and alliteration before designing their own castles and creating plans for their own writing, adapting the model text to create their own setting description.

A fun and engaging Year 1 3 week T4W unit using Pokemon cards as hook to write simple character descriptions. My class LOVED this and wrote great sentences. At the end, we shrunk their work down to make real Pokemon cards.

The main focus is using a capital letter and full stop and simple adjectives to create great sentences. Children will learn the model text, a brand new Pokemon, before generating lots of ideas and practicing writing sentences of their own.
Children will then design their own pokemon and use the planning format to write their own.
