Part 3 of some functional skills resources designed to enable learners to discover explore and learn skills in preparation for functional skills L1, L2 in ICT and English This task naturally lends to the learner completing successful searches of the World famous Museum the Louvre in Paris, looking for facts and images taking print screens and using effective search techniques to gain maximum marks as they would on an assessment The second part is for them to develop and present a fact sheet/poster on the Museum using lots of editing techniques and formatting images, page layout fonts etc, also using tables to present information the learners can see how the task is marked and you can set a pass mark (65%) is usually enough to pass a FS exam The learners can then make effective use of email and feedback can be given on the completed work and also email etiquette where learners can pick up those extra marks an Ideal activity that is interesting and leads to creative work being produced that meets the standards, great for feedback, enabling them to progress skills and development of ICT. Functional skills ICT spreadsheet task

This resource I have used many times to help and support students in schools and learners with functional ICT at level 1. Most awarding bodies for functional skills ask for this level of activity during assessment. Whilst some learners are competent with word processing I have found that spread sheets tend to be the most troublesome, hence the reason for this and many other activities I have created. The task is based around the learner being able to create a spread sheet and use formula, fill colours, borders, the sum, average, minimum and maximum function to create the desired data results. In addition the task allows the learner to format the units to currency and percentages and also use absolute cell references within the tables that they create. The completed task should be clear and easy to understand The task readily lends itself for the learner to explore the use of different charts and graph to display the information they have created, making use of the various chart wizards depending on which software they use. Ideally the two sided task can be laminated for future use with learners to reduce printing cost This task can be added to with additional tasks and activities and scenarios to further develop and explore skills. The task has been saved into a PDF format for ease of use and printing, I have also added in the completed example using Excel for tutors to use as an example on a whiteboard or smart screen I hope you enjoy using this resource and find it useful, should you decide to use this please provide feedback on how you found the resource worked with your students, thanks for looking Regards Tony

A task for learners to complete and practice skills for writing letters and or emails that frequently occur when working on functional skills task The task is designed to get learners to think about layout and the formatting of task they complete I have put marks against each formatting activity to show learners how marks can be achieved to ensure maximum marks and a successful pass rate can be gained. The two task on the sheet also give the learner the opportunity to correctly email the task as an attachment where the tutor can give feedback on email etiquette and the task itself, which is also part of the functional skills standards for assessment. Functional English Natural links with functional English writing can also be gained with letter writing page layouts, spelling, punctuation and Grammar, sample letter layout also provided on the second page of the task In addition to the task I have attached a quick guide to word formatting images, and text, page layout as well Hope you find this useful in your quest with Functional skills ICT and English Regards Tony
