This is a practice Translation for the writing exam in EDEXCEL Mandarin Chinese GCSE based on the vocabulary and structures introduced in Unit 1, My Life. There is a second page not shown in the preview which includes a model answer and advice to candidates/teachers about the sort of content that needs to be taught in order to answer this type of question.

This is an example speaking card for the Higher Tier (easily adapted to the Foundation by the inclusion of the hidden question) to help prepare candidates for the Speaking Test (Picture Card section). This worksheet was created to help embed the names of foods and describing words related to them. It also has a second side inviting the pupils to write using a guide and to include higher order structures such as ‘not only…but also’.

This second sheet follows on and is slightly harder than the one entitled: ‘Food and opinions.’ It continues to use harder structures such as ‘not only…but also’ and because + adjective.

This activity can be used in a variety of ways. The resource is made for the topic of Holidays. I included a box on the right as a clue for weaker pupils. Feel free to keep or delete, as you feel appropriate for your class. The words could also be then used to start writing an extended piece of writing, some homework or a speaking task.
