A data handling investigation using Smarties.
Pupils will predict and estimate on:
the number of Smarties in each tube.
the colour of Smarties in each tube.
the amount of each colour in each tube.
Pupils will then sort their tube of Smarties and answer questions based upon their predicitions, as well as drawing a bar chart to show what their tube of smarties had.
This resource allows children to conduct a practical experiment and then present the data they find in a bar chart. It also creates a good level of whole class discussion.
The pack includes
PDF of the sheet children will use for the investigation
PowerPoint to deliver lesson
A set of statements which can be used to create a display of the investigation (I have done this with some photographs and then copies of the student’s work.
This resource looks at solving Mean, Mode and range questions based on the goals scored by Ice Hockey teams in the Elite Hockey League (GB).
This resource comes with a Whiteboard Stimulus (Slide 2)
Printable Worksheet (Slide 3)
Answers (Slide 4)
These worksheets have been used in a Primary 6 (Year 5) class to teach long multiplication. The method chosen is to break the sum into to manageable sections and to then add answers together. All worksheets cover numbers by teens and then numbers up to 99
A selection of word problems for addition and subtraction. There are different levels of difficulty and a worksheet with no carrying over or regrouping for both addition and subtraction.
In this activity, children will be asked to present their typical day data as a pie chart (with 24 segments, 1 for each hour of the day).
Children will then create a key and the write each activity as a fraction out of 24. Higher level children should be encouraged to simplify their fractions.
Children working at a lower level can use the version which leaves the fractions as a fraction out of 24.
This activity could be completed on the sheet or could be cut out and each element displayed on nice colourful paper.
Set of 8 questions on reflecting a shape across a mirror line. Answers included
Each quadrant and shape has a set of questions attached to see if children can reflect the shape and identify the new coordinate
This lesson gets the children to design a donut and then write a persuasive paragraph on why someone should buy it. It comes with a lesson PowerPoint and a Powerpoint with the worksheet template.
Pupils should be descriptive in how they describe the donut and then us Microsoft Desginer AI to generate a real life image of their creation.
This set of resources is used for teaching 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
The Power Points take the students through the different shapes and allow them to fill in the details of all the shapes into the accompanying shape properties booklet.
One of the Power Points is simply used as a revision template for the names of shapes - print out the slide and get the children to write down the names of the shapes. You can then reveal all the names.
This PowerPoint goes through a lot of common idioms to help children understand their meaning. The activity is built into the last slide of the PowerPoint. The activity gets the children to pick some of the idioms and to draw what it says and to then write and draw what it actually means.
