Rounding to nearest 1dp, 2 dp and 1sf

This lesson is aimed at lower ability students or students that have not done rounding before. There is a complete lesson, with a main activity. The best way to do the main activity, is to cut the 'post if notes' and either stick them in groups (essential questions together, excel questions together etc) around the room, or put them in piles around the room. Students then get an answer grid that they fill in when they pick up a question and answer it. Students need to check what question number they are answering and which level of challenge to make sure they answer in the correct box. There is a tip sheet that can be printed and again put around the room for students wanting to complete to 1sf. Answers are provided and students can write a strength and target following on from that. There is a singing plenary to finish with. This is where students are asked a question, they are to answer it on their mini whiteboards, if they get the answer correct, part of family guy will play.

The notebook file is the lesson, So through this with the students and get them to complete ones on their mini whiteboards. Then students to complete the GCSE questions. This is differentiated as students can start working on any level of questions. It is best printed as a booklet for students to complete. Then the plenary activity recaps what should have been learnt in lessons. Personally, I get students to complete this by themselves in silence to show themselves what they have achieved within the lesson.

This can be differentiated by which students you pick. There is also a plenary activity which can be used at the end of the lesson to assess students. I usually make students do this in silence and by themselves to reflect on the learning that they have done today. The answers are also provided.

Simplify, solve and inequalities

This is a revision lesson for students to revise simplifying, solve and inequalities. For the starter students should brain storm everything that they know about these three terms. For the introduction, complete a couple of questions on each for the students and then give them the GCSE booklet to complete. The answers are provided at the back. These can either be printed with the questions so that students can check them as they do the questions. Or they can be printed and stuck up around the room for students to check. Or they can be given at the end of the lesson. It could also be used as a mini test on these topics.
