Oxford HAT Tips and Feedback

The History Aptitude Test (HAT) will determine whether or not you achieve an Oxford interview. Oxford tries to limit the advice it gives to students, but these 2 pages of concrete and constructive tips have been compiled from students who have taken the test in recent years (both successfully and unsuccessfully) and from teachers who have marked the HAT. Feedback is provided on the themes of structuring your answer, ensuring depth of analysis, writing creatively and integrating historiography into your answer. There are also ‘trigger words’ to look out for, and suggestions of how to probe them deeply. Good luck!
