Maths Puzzles: Tarsia

(0)
10 Tarsia Puzzles covering a range of Upper KS2 and lower KS3 subject areas. (As a current upper KS2 teacher myself, I use Tarsia regularly as my pupils really enjoy these puzzles - great for Deepening / Mastery) Includes: -Dividing Fractions (Standard) -Dividing Fractions (Tricky) -Equivalent Fractions -Finding Fractions of Numbers (Standard) -Finding Fractions of Numbers (Tricky) -Fraction Conversions -Multiplying Fractions (Standard) -Multiplying Fractions (Tricky) -Roman Numerals (Standard) -Roman Numerals (Tricky) -Multiply and divide by 10 100 1000 (Standard) -Multiply and divide by 10 100 1000 (Tricky) What is a Tarsia? Tarsias are puzzles (a bit like dominoes or triominoes) where each piece contains a mix of questions and answers. Questions and answers have to be matched up, creating a finished puzzle. What file-types are included? TES doesn’t support Tarsia files, so these can’t be uploaded directly. Instead, you’ll be accessing PNG files (images) of the original puzzles. These are fully printable and playable. What software is required if I want to make my own Tarsia? Tarsias are created in a piece of free software by Hermitech Labs (no affiliation.) I’ve been making Tarsia for years - it’s a genuinely fantastic free resource, which you should consider downloading for yourself. It allows you to choose a blank puzzle-type, then input your own questions and answers. It then turns those into a puzzle for you. (To find the page with the download on, Google ‘Hermitch Labs Tarsia’)

4 Operations Instruction Booklet

4 Operations Instruction Booklet

(0)
Do your pupils forget their written methods almost as soon as you’ve taught them? I created this booklet to overcome this yearly obstacle - one booklet with all written methods explained in step-by-step instructions. Each pupil in my class keeps a copy in their maths books (like a bookmark) and refers back to it if they forget their methods. For each step, there is a short, clear explanation of what to do (and why.) ** Great for:** +revision +daily use +learning aid for LAPs / forgetful pupils +teaching aid when first teaching a method

200 Words or Fewer: Story Coordinates
jessgoldsmith5jessgoldsmith5

200 Words or Fewer: Story Coordinates

(0)
A fantastic resource that specifically develops: -creativity -writing speed -enjoying writing -enjoying stories -just writing, rather than overthinking / worrying about grammar, vocab choice etc Recommended for: -reluctant writers (My Y5/Y6 boys love doing 200 Words each week) -slow writers -‘can’t get started’ writers -children who don’t read very much at home / have limited experience of stories How does it work? There are 4 Story Coordinate cards in each set: Character, Situation, Object and Place. Pupils randomly choose a coordinate from each card, giving you four very random story elements (E.g. a mysterious shadow, a hilarious accident, a tiny sword, behind a waterfall.) Set a time limit (my Y5/6 like to be given 10 minutes for this.) Within that time limit, pupils write a short story (or a part of a story) which includes as many of the 4 items as possible. It is important to stress to your pupils that, unlike writing lessons, this task is not about using amazing vocabulary/ broad range of punctuation / your neatest handwriting; it is about being creative, letting go and having fun. What’s incuded? -Notebook document (with an example-page to get you started) -4 x Character cards -4 x Situation cards -4 x Object cards -4 x Place cards
