This is a two week writing resource focusing on description. It uses parts from chapters 1 -4 of War Horse. It is for the children to write about leaving the pen after being sold to arriving at the stables. This goes through a writing process in the following format: Analysing Joey’s feelings in the first chapter Key vocabulary searching Reading and analysing example texts and high quality descriptive writing from other novels Planning the writing Drafting the first paragraph (Joey leaving the pen after being sold) with modelled writing Drafting the second paragraph (The journey to the stables) with modelled writing Drafting the third paragraph (Arriving at the stables) with modelled writing Big writing the final piece Each lesson also has a grammar focus beginning with identifying main clauses and subordinate clauses and then moving onto relative clauses in the second week. The PowerPoint has guidance on this but I have used resources from elsewhere for the activities the children need to complete (only for the grammar). Resources included in this pack: A comprehensive PowerPoint for all of the sessions including examples (48 slides) Resource pack 1 contains: success criteria, key vocabulary in 2 sizes, feelings matching resource for lesson 1, PEE paragraph templates for lesson 1, Chapter 2 and 3 summary notes crib sheets, key vocabulary and definition matching activity for lesson 2, 3 x differentiated planning sheets, sentence starters, modelled text for the first paragraph ‘Roll on the wall’ horse template extracts from high quality texts - differentiated 3 ways matching activity for emotions Resource pack 2 contains: success criteria, writing frames for each paragraph, key vocabulary, sentence starters for all three paragraphs.
