Part of a sequence of videos that demonstrate how chords a built and used. From beginner to advanced the videos cover building triads to inversions and voice leading. This has been effective with ages 12-13 (year 8) but could be used at any age dependent of level. Music terminology is presented in an easy to grasp manner without the ‘dumbing-down’ experienced in some videos.
Would make a great Google Classroom resource.
This is a comprehensive scheme of work for Film Music. It contains a variety of pieces and genres and looks at both musical analysis and composition. Starting with thinking about the reasons and history of film music and going through to creating it, the student work book contains examples, space for analysis, composition tasks and many quotes from composers. All music examples are properly cited for revision. Helpful pages such as the musical elements are also included in the student work book.
These two videos look firstly at building a chord sequence using triads and then turning them into music. These videos follow a score rather than a piano/keyboard. They are intended to compliment the other videos I’ve done on chords.

This spread sheet (affectionately named the grade maker) is a spread sheet that enables teacher to predict final GCSE grades based on potential attainment in the different areas of the course. It has been very useful during student review sessions and is excellent at helping to identify areas where additional marks can be gained. This teacher resource also contains helpful administrative pages for collating coursework.
A complete resource test for Film Music and Periods of Music. The mp3 file has been timed to 40 mins so you just need to press play and leave it to run.
This is a lead sheet for an original piece of music written by me. It has a latin/funk feel and though melodically straight forward it is rhythmically challenging. A video demonstrating the possibilities of the chart is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4ei6bVaPT0
This has worked very well with both beginners and senior students.
An original song aimed at younger children to learn in vocal groups. An easy and memorable melody with lots of scope for including harmonies with older pupils.
The lyrics speak about becoming more positive and valuing those things often taken for granted.
This includes a demo recording, chord chart and lyrics.
In this video some simple chord extensions are applied to a I iv IV V chord sequence. Aimed at 14-16 year olds (but could be used higher), the video is clearly formatted and demonstrates how to apply extensions practically at the piano.
