Martin Luther King Jr. - Character Trait Games
Martin Luther King Jr. - Character Traits Yes/No Game is a perfect resource to use to assist students with consolidating their udnerstanding of character traits. By playing this fun and interactive game during 'Black History Month', it will assist students to make inferences about Martin Luther King Jr., expand their vocabulary and provide evidence as to why they believe the character traits match Martin's character traits or not.

This yes/no game can be played with 1-2 players, small group work or played as a whole class. The object of the game is for student to sort the character trait cards under the yes or no heading. If they think Marin Luther King displays a particular character trait they place their card under the yes heading, if not they place it under the no heading.
There is full instructions included in this kit on how to play the game as a whole class, in pairs or in small group work. All of the character trait cards are handed out evenly to each of the players to sort under the correct heading. Students are to provide a reason or evidence as to why they placed their card under that heading. For example if a student selected the character trait 'leader' they would place the character trait card leader under the yes heading because Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader when he gave a speech to the world. (see preview for example). Students take it in turns until all cards are placed under the yes or no heading.
There is also a variation to the game where you can play corners as a whole class. The teacher places the yes heading in one corner and the no heading in another corner or the room. He or she then calls out a character trait card from the pack and the students walk to the corner of the room that they think is correct. Select a student to give a reason to why they chose that corner of the room. The game is finished when there is a winner or small group of students left.
The game consists of:
• 2 heading - yes/no
• Teacher instructions
• 1 character poster - Martin Luther King Jr.
• 60 character trait cards - 30 character trait cards that match the yes heading for Marin Luther King Jr. and 30 character trait cards that match the no heading.
• Answer Sheet
By playing this game regularly in class students will have a deeper understanding about character traits. This game also assists the teacher with class discussions about character traits and reasons why students believe a character has a particular character trait. Answers may vary with students as they have different beliefs and personal opinions.
