A lesson designed for SEN students to be able to access Geography

3 lessons and one assessment - with accompanying resources - for mixed ability KS3 Geography.

I have included the materials used for my Y7 SEN class and my Y9 mixed ability class. Hopefully some of it is useful to other non-specialists trying to deliver this material!

Addiction/Smoking/Alcohol/Drugs. 5 lesson powerpoints with some key facts and brief, attainable tasks. My own place of work is not planning to track or assess any of the work, and we have been told to keep resources to a minimum to avoid too much waste. As such, you will need to create your own assessment sheets, but I hope that this is helpful.

I made this fun lesson for students arriving back to school into our new building. Designed to get them exploring the new building WITHOUT sticking anything on newly painted walls and doors [to appease the powers that be] but could easily be adapted with QR codes for iPad development too.

A modelling activity for small groups to do, which they can be assessed on as an alternative or addition to written tests. Build a river system with labels on all features, landforms and processes. Present to the class and answer a question from the teacher.

This lesson is designed to introduce/revisit sustainability and its importance. I have used the example of changes in Derby as it is a local example, but this slide/the image on the group enquiry sheet can be easily edited for your preference. Support sheets included for literacy differentiation.

Designed for a mixed ability group to review learning about economic development,, with a focus on LEDCs. 25 marks - should take 50 minutes, as the final question requires a fair bit of reading and thinking through. Now with assessment grid.

A short assessment that could be completed in 40 minutes for KS3 students. Includes questions on erosion, deposition, landforms and defences. Aimed at mixed ability classes - most pupils should be able to complete most of the sheet, with a couple of mildly challenging questions at the end. Now with assessment grid.

To be used with the BBC learning clip about waves and coastlines. Useful when introducing key terms and basic wave processes. NOT EROSION OR DEPOSITION :) Could be differentiated by adding a word box for SEN.

This is an assessment piece for KS3 that I use as a differentiated set of handouts when setting up the task with groups I usually see twice a week as a two week project. Giving the students access to maps and computers is crucial during this assessment.
