Some topics are more difficult to explain in simple terms than others. Why not try an analogy? When working with an expression such as 5a+2-3a, some students may not consider 2a+2 as a correct answer and may think that they ALWAYS need a SINGLE term e. g. 4a. The analogy used in this worksheet should help with these common misconceptions. It consists of 12 differentiated questions where students can identify and collect like terms. . . Types of Equations Worksheet / GCSE Level

This fun worksheet is based on a flow chart of different types of equations. It’s a great resource to revise strategies used to solve equations, starting from fractional equations, equations with brackets, equations with the unknown on the both sides and finishing with a classic two-step equation. The resource should be printed double sided and folded inside along four dotted lines (see instructions how to fold the resource). When closed, the types of four equations are visible. To see the steps how to solve one of them, you can simply unfold one of the four corners. The arrows inside indicate the direction to follow the next step. ⓘ If you prefer your students to fill in the steps, print the second version. ✔ Don’t miss out: the worksheet unable to revise useful vocabulary in algebra too!

Fun Short Animation Project

There are only few weeks left in this academic year and you want to use them to plan engaging, non-standard lessons with experimenting elements. You probably didn’t really have the chance to think about this kind of planning earlier because of your scheme of work, exams and other important things. Here’s an idea for you! The main steps of the project can be divided into the following: Introduce the assignment which is to create a short video clip based on a topic of a student’s choice. Decide on a storyline / individual shots / sequences and also a mood (this includes music!). Create a storyboard and prepare the individual shots (or use appropriate software). Organise the individual shots, edit the exposure time, add music, etc. Share it on Instagram account (you can use Gramblr uploader). ⓘ I know it’s a quite complex project, but how exciting! There is an easy to print version of this project ready to download. ⓘ This idea is based on my own project - a short video clip, which you can see soon here. Big thank you to @mmmmkacietravis (blog post) and @frannerd (youtube video) for the inspiration!
