This unit is designed to create a (roughly) chronological journey through heroes and villains, from the mythical Medusa through to the modern day Olympic heroes, the unit asks pupils to justify what makes a hero or villain, and why. Each week has a text focus and exposes pupils to a wide range of English skills with a focus on both reading and writing, and many opportunities for speaking and listening through group work. There is a focus on analysing language through close interpretations of quotes. There are also multiple opportunities for assessment.

Some well known Shakespeare phrases in pretty fonts/ speech bubbles. Used for display purposes and to emphasise the relevance of his words today.

15 shaped word clouds for each od the poems in the power & conlfict cluster. Each cloud contains all of the words in the poem placed into a shape relevant to the poem.

There are 5 mini exam papers in the style of AQA paper 2. The themes are: Gender Disease Prison life Bars Crime Each paper has two short extracts followed by all four questions the GCSE would have. Each paper is reduced to one sheet of A4. Both .pdf and word files available as fancy fonts are used. Please leave a review if you use/download.

There are 5 sets of matching poems with a particular focus, such as Falling in love School Teachers War Texting The sheet provided gives a space for students to plan their answers for both questions. Editable word documents included if you just want the poems!

These can be used as a display, as flashcards - anything really. A set of colourful and visual keywords, a range of words paired with linking images. Includes: Analyse: Oxymoron, metaphor, formal/informal language, imperatives, repetition etc. Remember: quotations, plan, paragraphs, conclusion, comparison, PEEL etc. Reflect: Weakness, strength, target, improve, focus etc.

A sheet of 5-6 words from each poem for students to learn. Words in bold are repeated in the poem. Pdf version available with specific font and the word version is editable.

Instructions are on the sheet for pupils. A choice based homework task to set at the beginning of a half term, allowing pupils to choose their own task each week. Focused on skills of researching, creativity and reading and writing. A word document so that it can be edited to suit different topics and tasks can be altered slightly.

This work has been created to teach students in school during the school lockdown. It is designed to build cultural capital and to not overlap with our curriculum which is still being set for all students. There are 3 sessions/lessons on Midas and then 3 sessions/lessons on Icarus. The sessions follow a similar pattern: 1 - Predict the story, read it, storyboard it 2- Answer comprehension/analyse quotations, learn relevant vocabulary, write an analysis vocabulary 3- Summarise the story, discuss the moral, apply to modern day life. Attached are a .pdf and .doc of the 8 page booklet needed for all 6 sessions, the powerpoint which teachers can use, and the stories themselves.

For the fourth week of quizzes I have written questions where each set of answers are all a particular word class (verbs, adverbs, nouns and adjectives There are 2 lots of 4/3 quizzes with different text combinations (Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry AND Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry) and the answers on the following slide. All questions are interleaved and each quiz is worth 10 marks - I use them simply as quick starters in the run up to the exams, which are immediately peer-assessed so students know where the gaps are in their knowledge. Please note there are other quizzes available for three more weeks in my other resources.

A lesson which aids students in building their ambitious vocabulary with a specific focus on describing colour. Includes an image to match 3 colour thesaurus palettes, and a Powerpoint which models how to improve colour description with some more vocabulary to build description.

The connectives are colour coded in different lines. If you want the London Underground font type you will need the .pdf version. Enjoy. NB: Not all the connectives on the map as I didn't have room in my classroom!
