This resource is based on Eric Carle’s amazing book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The resource shows a colour poster for each day of the week and what the caterpillar ate on each day. There is a black and white set of worksheets based on the posters for children to draw the food for each day, write the word and find the initial sound for the day of the week. Children can check that the food and days match the story itself. Ask them to check Saturday in particular. Did the story specify what flavour the ice cream was? A fun festive treat for young children to get them in the mood for Christmas. The activity requires careful observation skills. There are 18 pictures of animals all wearing a different Christmas hat. There are also 18 hat pictures for children to match up to the animals. You could use the activity like a lotto game where 3 children each have a board showing 6 animals in their hats. They would then try to match up the correct hats with the correct animal. Alternatively, duplicate the animal pictures, laminate and cut out for matching games.
