Afternoons- Philip Larkin Numerous Resources

(0)
Tried and tested resources used for teaching Eduqas Poetry Anthology- Afternoons. Resources can be used either in one lesson, spread out over a number of lessons or used for homework/ cover tasks. Resources have also been made for differentiation with questioning designed to push lower/mid-level learners. Resources simply need to be printed to be used. What’s included: • Powerpoint Differentiated learning objectives focused on quality of analysis and written response to exam style question. Some relevant contextual information with a homework task for pupils to research more. Analysis of poem follows a think, pair, share structure where students analyse independently, share their thoughts with a partner before sharing their thoughts with the whole class. Opportunity for independent work where pupils use analysis to answer an exam style question where they can self/ peer assess against the initial learning objects. • Afternoons Assisted Analysis One copy of the poem with a range of prompt questions designed to push lower/mid students with their analysis. Can also be used as a homework task or for a cover lesson which I have found particularly helpful. One blank copy for higher level learners for more realistic exam practise. • Example Responses 2 example exam style responses that can be used for scaffolding, self/ peer/ whole class assessment. • Revision Table- Afternoons revision table which pupils have traditionally found very helpful. Includes sections for structural comments, key quotes and inferences, comparison points for other poems in the anthology and contextual information. I hope you find these resources as helpful as I have and I’d welcome any feedback and constructive criticism so these resources can be refined for future use.

Writing Prompt Margin Slips

Writing prompt margin slips: Slips should be stuck into the page margin for pupils to use as a guide when answering exam style questions. Slips follow the P.E.A.R.L model: P-Point E-Evidence A-Analysis R-Reflect L-Link I normally have a box of these in the classroom that pupils can collect as and when they feel they are needed. Pupils of all abilities have found these particularly helpful in helping them structure analytical responses and develop their writing. All of my example responses follow the P.E.A.R.L structure as it enable pupils to explore texts in detail whilst meeting exam criteria. Examples of these responses can be found in my shop.

A Nando’s style template for differentiated learning outcomes. Easy to use and easily adapted. A fun twist on challenge setting where pupils enjoy aiming for the ‘spicier’ targets.
