This SoW introduces students in year 7 to the most basic and important musical features such as: clefs, note duration/note names, lines and spaces, chords, and triplets. Its main focus is developing students' knowledge and understanding of rhythms and note durations e.g. quavers/crotchets. They learn to clap a rhythm, that has words alongside to encourage learning the rhythm (the words are places around Milton Keynes - this could be changed to any location). The words/syllables fit in around the rhythm.
Students learn the rhythm first and then move onto working out note names e.g. C and eventually the final performance is them playing the piece on a keyboard.
Comes with all resources, homework for lessons, starters, main activities and a detailed scheme of work that is written so that less experienced teachers or cover teachers could read it and teach with ease.
Some of the activities have been taken from online ideas and amended and developed.
SoW has 7 lessons - enough to teach one lesson per week and take you up until October half term.
Additional rehearsal lessons can be incorporated if need be.
