Whole lesson. The first lesson of the year delivered to Y12. It gives an outline of the course, equipment and attitude checklist. Then moves on the origins of psychology, introspection and psychology as science with evaluation. Mini whiteboard (ABCD/TRUE-FALSE Plenary to check progress).
- I also hand out the Y12 content checklist at this point and ask them to tick of Wundt at the end.
Lesson 2 on relationships - looking at Self Disclosure as an aspect of SPT. Colour coding evaluation activity where students must match the evidence and link to the original point to create fully developed evaluation. Mini whiteboard plenary (ABCD/True-False).
- Content mainly from pink haired girl book
Created to address the phobias section of AQA AS specification for Unit 2. Bundle contains 3 lessons (approx 3-4 hours). Also useful for Y13 revision.
Lesson 1: Characteristics of phobias -Students watch an episode of Extreme Phobias, Extreme Cures to complete the emotional, cognitive and behavioural characteristics of phobias (students enjoyed this)
Lesson 2: Behaviourist explanation of phobias - two process model. Includes evaluation (SLT, Preparedness etc).
Lesson 3: Behaviourist treatments (flooding and SD). Student task is to create an information leaflet.
Evaluation is included throughout and the episodes of the programme are really good for discussion the characteristics, explanation and treatments as well as definitions of abnormality. All information is on powerpoint so good for non-specialists also. Lots of videos - links in notes section.
Lesson 3 - Full lesson going through the key assumptions of SLT including mediational processes. Hand-out with Bandura's study. Application based question for students to apply knowledge. Colour coding evaluation task.
- also included a activities that I haven't used in this lesson but may be useful.
Lesson 6: Introduces students to concepts of sample and target population, bias and representativeness. Then moves on to the different sampling methods, (random, systematic, stratified, volunteer) with strengths and weaknesses. (Systematic, type students names from register).
This is the first unit I taught for the new GCSE psychology AQA specification. I did verbally weave research methods content in (moved onto research methods as next unit). Includes tracker and assessment (I made my own questions). I planned this unit without a textbook - instead watering down A-level content. Unit ends Ends with Disney's Inside Out which was a nice way to end the lessons at Christmas.
This lesson goes through key concepts associated with Humansim (and evaluation) and also the free will debate. Includes fun activities where students recreate the hierarchy of needs. A3 sheet for students to structure their notes.
This bundle combines both experimental and non-experimental research methods (which I planned and taught in that order). There are a range of lessons each with their own popwerpoint and worksheets. Tracker is included for students to stick in at the start and then write a comment after each lesson with a red, amber green traffic light colour. I also get my students to learn 5 essential spellings which they have to define when we come to the word or as homework (literacy sheet included) I made these before the new spec book was published so all content is type or on worksheets with answers provided- so is ideal for non-specialists. Opportunities for practicals and self/peer assessment has been included. Approx one full terms worth (3x lessons a week). Price reflects time and effort that went into planning and making all of these resources.
Lesson 3 - A whole lesson detailing the key assumptions and terms associated with SLT. Lots of application based questions - video link to Bandura's study with colour coding evaluation. Mini whiteboard plenary (ABCD, TRUE/FALSE).
