This quiz recaps the learning from the first five lessons of the series: 1. Where is Africa? 2. Perceptions of Africa. 3. The Colonisation of Africa. 4. Population densities of Africa. 5. Physical feature of Africa. The final couple of questions are about biomes. If you have studied biomes then you can keep the questions in, if not then remove them and make the quiz out of 20/21 rather than 25. Use however you wish and enjoy!

An end of term assessment for the topic of Africa. Completely FREE. The assessment is written around the lessons that are available on my page, but can be adapted to suit other lessons on the topic. A lesson for the topic of Africa which is completely FREE. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson is an excellent follow up to the 'Opportunities in Lagos' lesson, but can also be taught separately on its own. Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria. Pupils will complete a starter worksheet based on the video in the presentation, before completing activities based around statistics in Makoko (squatter settlement) and then writing a persuasive letter to either save or demolish Makoko (using a help sheet).

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson looks at the social and economic positives surrounding the city of Lagos in Nigeria. The pupils will answer two questions based around the first 2-3 minutes of the video in the presentation, before creating a mind-map in their books based on the information given to them. From this information, the pupils will be challenged to rank the opportunities from 1-7, explaining why they have ranked them in such order. This offers the opportunity to create a plenary where the pupils debate their rankings.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson focuses on identifying the physical features within the continent of Africa. The lesson starter is a physical features wordsearch, before identifying where they are located within the Continent. From this, the pupils will create their own 'Physical features map' (Atlas will be required), example of what a completed map should look like is included in the presentation. Short quiz plenary at the end.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson and given GRADE 1: OUTSTANDING during a formal lesson observation. In this lesson, pupils must explore densely and sparsely populated regions of Africa in the 'odd one out' game, before using Egypt and Libya as example for the variation in population densities across the Northern coast of the Continent. Main activity is a set of questions around Egypt's population densities. Includes an optional homework.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. This lesson includes a 'tick box' learning objective sheet for all pupils to do at the start (if they can) and then again at the end to highlight their progress. The lesson starter is a recap to previous lessons learning (or general knowledge), before the pupils explore what colonisation is. The main activity of the lesson sees the pupils create a timeline of colonisation in Africa.

A lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. Firstly, the pupils will write 3 words to describe Africa (usually poor, hot etc). The pupils will be questioned about their perceptions of Africa, before being shown two maps that portray Africa in a certain way, to which they will again be questioned on whether they agree or not. The main activity of the lesson is the 'Africa or not?' game, where they simply have to write whether they believe the image is of Africa or not, the answers tend to surprise the class massively. This game is excellent for class engagement across all abilities. Towards the end of the lesson, the pupils are asked to reconsider their initial thoughts. Homework included: To give the pupils a new sheet for their 3 words to describe Africa and give them the option to change them.

An introductory lesson for the topic of Africa. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. You will need atlases or a map of Africa with capital cities on it for this lesson. Pupils must be able to identify Africa as a continent firstly, before geographically describing its location. The main activity of the lesson allows the pupils to use an atlas to hunt for answers using clues and links to previous answers sequentially around their blank map of Africa. Highly recommend using the 'countries of the world song' during the lesson (link included in presentation), always works as a mood lifter for KS3 pupils!

As end of term assessment for the topic of Coasts and completely FREE. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously completed within a 1hr lesson with revision time at the start, but can easily be completed in lessons with less time available. Based around my Coasts scheme of work, but can be adapted to suit you. Includes mark scheme.

The final lesson in the series for the topic of Coasts, and its yours for FREE. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson, but can be adapted to fill 2 hours. This lesson looks at the coastal erosion case study of the Holderness Coast in the North East of England, the fastest eroding coastline in Europe. One of my favourite lessons to teach and very much pupil led during the main activity. Hope you enjoy!

A lesson or double lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson for high ability but over 2hrs to low ability. This lesson can be taught over either 1 or 2 hrs based on the ability of the class and how you choose to teach it. Pupils will be introduced to options around managing the coast (do nothing, hold the line etc) before producing an information table about 6 methods of engineering, using the information sheets provided (3 hard, 3 soft). The final activity will see the pupils write a letter, using their information table for guidance, stating why they will defend Marine Point in New Brighton (or you can substitute the image for this for any other built up coastal location depending on where your school is).

A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The lesson includes a 'True or False' recap to begin based on Longshore drift, rock type and erosion, two types of waves and stump formation; this is then followed by two main activities that the pupils must complete in order to understand how a Spit is formed and the features that come with it. Firstly, a numbered diagram with missing descriptions, followed by a worksheet with the ends of sentences missing. A word box is provided for help.

The pupils will begin the lesson by critically analysing a poor answer to a question about how a stump is formed, before leading into describing how longshore drift occurs. Twitter based definition activity and a homework are included.

A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The lesson begins with teacher led recaps in relation to rock type and erosion, but leads into the formation of a stump. The main activities firstly see the pupils reorder the sequence of how a stump forms, before attempting a 6-mark GCSE level question. I have taught this to Year 7 before and those who achieve high marks on the final question become elated to find out it is often asked at GCSE. Mark scheme for the 6-mark question is included in the presentation.

A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. This lesson is ideal to be used as a follow up lesson to the two types of waves. Pupils will look at the four different types of erosion before completing an 'annotate' GCSE question on Headlands and Bays to the best of their ability. This activity is effective if it is teacher led with KS3 pupils, I have done this activity with year 7 previously.
