A lesson for the topic of tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, pupils will be exploring how negatives factors can impact upon tourism. The pupils will be put into the shoes of a hotel owner early in the lesson and will write how they feel that their business will be affected as a result of the two scenarios they are put in (London Olympic Games 2012 and then the 7/7 bombings). Later in the lesson, the pupils will attempt to answer a 8+4 mark question using the example they have been given. This question could be the first time a KS3 class have attempted an 'Explain' question so a TOP TIP for structure is included on the question slide. Perhaps a teacher led example could help classes struggling with the question if that appears to be the case.
A lesson for the topic of Rivers. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BASED ON AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, pupils will learn about the formation of a meander and subsequently, oxbow lakes. Pupils will be drawing and labelling a diagram of a meander, completing a description of the landform by filling in missing words, before creating a 4-part drawing of oxbow lakes. Oxbow lake exam style question as a homework is included.
A lesson for the topic of Natural Hazards. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. This lesson focuses on how Tsunami's occur. The first slide of the presentation is an answer slide for the homework set in the 'Gorkha earthquake 2015' lesson, this of course can be skipped.
A lesson for the topic of tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, pupils will be exploring mass tourism and more specifically, the economic and environmental gains and losses that come as a result of it. The first main activity will see the pupils colour code a sheet with a key based on mass tourism categories, before using this information to write a short speech about mass tourism, giving their opinion on it in the process.
A lesson for the topic of Tourism. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, the pupils will begin by stating what they believe is 'characteristic' of a UK coastal resort, before embarking on a game of 'Blackpool or not?', where they write whether they believe the image on the board was taken in Blackpool or not. From this, the pupils' main activities will be based around the Butler life cycle model. A good lesson as many KS3 pupils are too young to be aware that UK coastal resorts were once immensely popular holiday destinations.
A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The lesson includes a 'True or False' recap to begin based on Longshore drift, rock type and erosion, two types of waves and stump formation; this is then followed by two main activities that the pupils must complete in order to understand how a Spit is formed and the features that come with it. Firstly, a numbered diagram with missing descriptions, followed by a worksheet with the ends of sentences missing. A word box is provided for help.

The lesson explores the three types of plate margins before introducing pupils to the idea of 'describing the distribution' of natural hazards at the end of the lesson using the TEA (trend, example, anomaly) approach.

This lesson explores Gorkha in Nepal as a case study of a natural disaster (Earthquake). The main activity of the lesson involves distinguishing primary and secondary effects and responses. Includes optional homework's for either high or low ability.
A lesson for the topic of Deserts. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BUILT AROUND AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, the pupils will play a recap game of 'Blockbusters' based on the two previous lessons in this bundle, before looking at the Sahel as a more specific example of an area suffering from Desertification. The Blockbusters game is an excellent activity which I would suggest adapting for any topic at all! Spellings homework included.

A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. The pupils will begin the lesson by critically analysing a poor answer to a question about how a stump is formed, before leading into describing how longshore drift occurs. Twitter based definition activity and a homework are included.

The lesson begins with a recap activity to previous lessons, before a main activity where pupils will draw a diagram of a waterfall and label the formation. An anagrams homework included based on key words from the topic.
A lesson or double lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson for high ability but over 2hrs to low ability. This lesson can be taught over either 1 or 2 hrs based on the ability of the class and how you choose to teach it. Pupils will be introduced to options around managing the coast (do nothing, hold the line etc) before producing an information table about 6 methods of engineering, using the information sheets provided (3 hard, 3 soft). The final activity will see the pupils write a letter, using their information table for guidance, stating why they will defend Marine Point in New Brighton (or you can substitute the image for this for any other built up coastal location depending on where your school is).

The bulk of the lesson explores the two types of waves, constructive and destructive. The starter activity of distinguishing the longest coastlines in the world will be made easier for the pupils is atlases are available, although the presentation has a large map on it to help otherwise. Spellings homework included that can be marked during the following lesson.
An introductory lesson for the topic of Rivers. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BASED ON AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, pupils will be exploring and defining the types of erosion and transportation that shape our rivers. The main activity see's the pupils complete a cross-curricular maths (graph-based) activity based on the Hjulstrom Curve.
A lesson for the topic of Rivers. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. BASED ON AQA 1-9 GCSE. In this lesson, the pupils be creating both a long and cross profile of the three courses of the river. The main activity see's the pupils having to correctly place sentences into the relevant boxes based on the course of the river and whether it is an example of erosion, transportation or deposition.
A lesson for the topic of Coasts. Ideal for Years 7 to 9. Previously taught by myself in a 1hr lesson. This lesson is ideal to be used as a follow up lesson to the two types of waves. Pupils will look at the four different types of erosion before completing an 'annotate' GCSE question on Headlands and Bays to the best of their ability. This activity is effective if it is teacher led with KS3 pupils, I have done this activity with year 7 previously.
A lesson for the topic of Deserts. Ideal for years 7 to 9. Previously taught in a 1hr lesson. In this lesson, the pupils will begin the lesson with a 'True or False?' quiz based on the previous lesson (What is Antarctica? - FREE lesson), before exploring a variety of positives and negatives of tourism in Antarctica in the main activity. Also in the lesson, the pupils will be probed to describe a number of images presented to them and potentially debate why their feeling differ as a result of the activity. The last part of the lesson involves the pupils creating a poster about tourism in Antarctica and the effect it is having (complete for homework).
