Snowball! Interactive game, all ages, print & play EOY fun, NO PREP

Get ready for a thrilling, interactive classroom game that sparks excitement and engages students of all grades! With minimal prep, this dynamic worksheet makes a great start or end of lesson game, as well as a brain break mid lesson. In younger grades this can be great for turning learning numbers 1-100 into an exhilarating race and for older grades its a good way to work on subtle team building. How to play: The first person in the circle (around 6 students but can be more or less) starts by writing numbers in the box while holding the pen. Their neighbor to the right rolls two dice. When they roll a pair of ones (snowballs!), they grab the pen and start writing in their own numbers 1-100 on their sheet. This continues around the circle. As a teacher, sit back and watch the competition unfold! The first to complete all 100 numbers in their box emerges victorious, making learning an absolute blast for everyone involved. Perfect for quick, energetic lessons that leave a lasting educational impact!

Black Death/Bubonic Plague Game, No printing required, Fun & logical reasoning

(0)
The Bubonic Plague/Black Death game is based off the game Mafia (sometimes known as One Night Werewolf). This game is a great and fun way to get students thinking logically and giving rationals for their argument. It can teach them to provide and weigh up evidence, the importance of bias and reliability and also enjoy learning at the same time. All you need is a deck of cards, a dice and this powerpoint and off you go. The rules seem hard at first but the whole class will understand within the first round. I have played this game with students in middle-high schools and it is loved by grades 7-12 but could easily be played by younger grades. I recommend at least 15 minutes the first time you play but rounds can last as little as 5 minutes once they know the rules. For HASS I encourage students to ask questions about symptoms, discuss facts around the events and incorporating what they have learnt. For incorporating drama, I encourage dramatic deaths and faster rounds, for English/Language Arts I focus on different areas of their arguments, including structure, rationale, bias, reliability of sources etc. The students respond well and can then apply this structure in drafting assessment.

Creative Media: Advertising Practical Filming Activity Lessons

Welcome to Million Dollar Sandwich - my student’s favourite workshop this semester! All you need is a few loaves of bread, some toppings, a bit of creativity, a light or two and a phone/camera/filming device. This practical, hands on learning lesson looks at applying advertising techniques, then walks students through brainstorming through the techniques, then workshopping ideas before students create their own short ad. This ppt also includes examples of other student’s work and a TikTok from an advertising consultant on creatively filming while on a budget. My students really got silly & funny with this lesson, which saw high levels of engagement, regardless of skillset. This activity could be done with students from Grade 6-12 - I use this as an instroductions with my year 11 Applied Media Arts in Practice Class (QCAA, QLD).
