In this resource, there are 10 black and white coloring sheets for students to color, one for each of the learner profile attributes. On the back on each is a very short reflection activity associated with the relevant learner profile attribute. You can use both the coloring and reflection sheets to reinforce the learner profile traits or use the coloring sheets as a mindfulness activity that can double as bright, student made displays for your classroom. They are in a compressed (zip) folder. Please make sure you know how to extract prior to purchase.

Music Unit: The Blues

A great guide for introducing students to the Blues!! This unit booklet serves as a guide through Blues chords and improvisation. Students will have the most success if they have access to keyboards or pianos, especially for the 12 bar Blues chord section. The improvisation can be done on any instrument, but piano seems to easily accessible by most students. This booklet is 14 pages long and includes a variety of activities and grading rubrics. It typically takes about 16 weeks to work through this unit with all of the activities and giving students enough practice time to solidify skills. Included Activities: A very short history on the Blues Multiple listening activities 12 bar Blues Chord progression 12 bar Walking Bass line Blues improvisation Reflection opportunities There are copies of this unit using quarter notes and half notes as well as crotchets and quavers. FREE Distance Learning Music Lessons

With more schools being asked to go to digital learning platforms at the moment, here are the resources I have developed to work through with my students for the next few weeks. I hope you find them useful if you are looking for ways to engage your music students from a distance. I am lucky that my students already have one-to-one devices so I know that they all have access to an app store and the Internet for online submissions. I have designed 6 assignments to use in conjunction with Music Maker Jam as an introduction to easy creation and arranging of pop music. It is a free app to download initially but has the option for in-app purchases, just so you are aware. I needed an alternative to Garageband for my students as not all of them have Macs/iPads. I’ve worked through all of the lessons using this app, but you might find a different app more suitable for your needs. I am not receiving any benefits from using this app. I just needed something quick and easy for my students to use. Please feel free to adapt, use, and share during this difficult time. Wishing you all the best! Stay safe and keep making music! :-)
