The Scrutiny - Richard Lovelace

The Scrutiny - Richard Lovelace

(0)
A PowerPoint presentation designed to take students through analysing the poem independently/in pairs. Questions are focused on the AOs for AQA’s A Level English Literature paper 7711 7712. I’ve included a couple of comparison questions for ‘Rebecca’, but not many and these could easily be adapted for the text you are using as the comparison piece. The focus is on the poem itself, rather than on the novel.

'The Help' by Stockett at A Level

4 Resources
A range of resources for teaching 'The Help' at A Level, designed with the AQA English Literature Specification in mind. Some comparison with 'A Streetcar Named Desire', which could be easily adapted for whatever play you are using for comparison in the exam. Hours of lessons here and a combination of PowerPoint led discussion, independent tasks and group activities. Possible exam questions and a thematic approach included too.
Macbeth Pre-reading Lesson

Macbeth Pre-reading Lesson

(0)
A great pre-reading activity based on Macbeth. Students simulate being in a police investigation and try to uncover the identity of a missing woman based on the things she has said and done. (It’s Lady Macbeth). Students work in groups, in role, which makes for an excellent speaking and listening activity, as well as a great introduction to the play. (It works best when you’ve not done anything with them on the play).
The Color Purple: Novel vs Film

The Color Purple: Novel vs Film

(0)
A worksheet including information about the making of the film and the reception to it, as well as questions to prompt consideration of the audience and context of both the novel and the film. Designed with A Level English Literature in mind, there is a question comparing the film with 'A Streetcar Named Desire', but this could be taken out and replaced with your own comparison text, or omitted altogether. I'll be setting as a homework to read and complete and then using the questions and answers as a discussion base for the following lesson, but could equally be used in class.

Introduction to Modern Literature

(0)
An overview of the historical and literary influences on Modern Literature and the transition from the Victorian Period. I have used this after students have researched the area themselves as a way of summarising key ideas and findings rather than 'information overload' on the slides themselves.
