This lesson is designed to enable children to write a poem based on firework/bonfire night. It takes children through the process of looking at fireworks and imagining descriptive vocabulary to describe them. There is then a short task looking at the senses and finishing with a written poetry activity focusing on onomatopoeia, alliteration and similes. This is a jam packed exciting lesson but could easily be adapted to last two/three lessons. I also plan on getting my class to do some firework art on black paper with paint and chalk. Then neatly write their poems over the top in glitter pens to make an awesome display! I have planned this lesson with year 3 pupils in mind but could easily work for year 4 & even 5 pupils if the literary devices were appropriate. Please note: All of my planning and resources are edited and made using the Twinkl font, if formatting is a problem when using a resource this may be the problem. The Twinkl font is free to download from the Twinkl website and is very clear for learners to read and dyslexia friendly, which is why I use it religiously.
