Year 6 Art Mexico Topic- Papel Picado
First lesson in a series of Art lessons based on Mexico. Final outcome is to produce a ‘Day of the Dead’ Mask. Children will learn a range of skills throughout which contribute to the final piece.
This lesson focuses on the tradition of Papel Picado- the traditional cut paper folk art.

Lesson 4 in a sequence of lessons for Year 6 inspired by the Mexican traditional celebration of the Day of the Dead. Final outcome is the creation of a mask.

As a school we use various learning tools such as De Bono’s Thinking Hats, the Habits of Mind and Thinking Maps- these tools are incorporated into the resource.

Year 6 Art- Inspired by Mexico
Series of 6 Art lessons inspired by the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead. First time uploading resources to TES- long time user but first time author. I have many other resources which could be uploaded if people feel these are a good framework.
Final outcome is that children produce a ‘mask’ influenced by the tradition. Each lesson has a detailed PowerPoint with links to examples and Youtube videos. Resource uses a number of ‘Thinking Tools’ but these could be removed/amended if not wanted in own setting.
