A Mean Old Man - Scrooge gets up to date! Full Length Musical for Secondary Schools and Sixth Form

This is a full length musical packed with outstanding songs - there's no 'filler' here! Scrooge is an estate agent, pay day loan shark, scrap gold merchant with an intern on a government training scheme. THERE CAN BE OVER 60 SPEAKING PARTS. PLEASE listen to the overview or go to the You Tube movie of the songs as performed by pupils at a secondary school. I've attached some of the backing tracks to give a flavour of the quality of the music on offer. There's really too much stuff to put it on to the TES site. I will provide what you need including full scores, backing tracks demo tracks and any other advice you need. Here's a synopsis: A Mean Old Man Synopsis Scrooge is alive and well and living in your local town as the proprietor of ‘Scrooge and Marley’ - estate agent, ‘unwanted’ gold dealer and pay day loan shark. His long suffering clerk is still Bob Cratchit; Bob is on a Government training scheme but the only education he gets from Scrooge is in the school of hard knocks. Cratchit moonlights in a band - he hopes to make it on an X Factor type programme but he has to keep regular money coming in to support Mrs Cratchit and the improbable number of Cratchettes - including of course a simpering do goody Tiny Tim (or Tina depending on casting). The show starts with a dance duet performed to a smoky jazz number ‘Wish For The Moon’ which tells Scrooge that his number is up. The dancers personify giving and taking and dance around a static figure with his back to the audience. Carol singers enter and ask Scrooge for a donation - whoops! Then we have the charity collectors who are dismissed, followed in short order by Darren and Sharon - Scrooge’s nephew and his - well - common (in every respect) law wife. Scrooge refuses their kind overtures and reluctantly gives Cratchit Christmas day off; Cratchit escapes the office and meets up with his fellow band members who wonder what they would do with all that money. As Scrooge reaches home we are treated to the sight of Marley (complete with dreadlocks and FX on Ghetto Blaster) who resembles his cousin Bob very strongly; in his own brand of punk ska he warns Scrooge of the three ghosts who will visit him that night. Scrooge poo poos this and settles down with his Freemans catalogue - he has just opened the ladies underwear section when he is interrupted by what appears to be an early 1960s cheesy pop singer who announces that he is the ghost of Christmas Past (‘long past?’ - ‘not on your nelly - your past - the rock’n’roll years!!) Mary I'm telling You Now! - VERY catchy new Christmas song

The Annunciation was never like this! What a dilemma, engaged to be married to Joseph - then you are told that you're gong to bear the son of God! This singable song puts a human angle on this part of the Christmas story. Please check the vocal demo - you will be singing the chorus by the end of it! Send the children to this page on my website so they can practice at home - vital to get the words out clearly. http://www.musicals4kidz.com/musicals4kidz.com/Christmas_Songs_for_Choirs.html They can also access the song on You Tube I've done it in G and C: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpC0O3yViL4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-vcwsGugdk Get in touch if you want any changes to key or tempo.

Harvest Hoe Down - a new song for Harvest Assembly

Harvest Hoe Down - a new song for Harvest Assembly

Here's a KS1/2 Harvest song in a country style. It is written to have a line dance in the middle of it - you could do 'The Funky Cowboy' as demonstrated in the video, or get the children to create a 'Harvesting Line Dance' with digging and reaping actions. If you don't fancy the line dance, simply repeat a verse or write some lyrics of your own. There is a vocal demo, a backing track, a score and a set of lyrics.

It's A New Day! A song for the start of the day, the week, the term, the year.

It's A New Day! A song for the start of the day, the week, the term, the year.

This is a new song to start off the year, the term, the week or the day. It tells us that every day is a new beginning and offers a chance to help children reflect on the fact that they have an important choice to make every single day - how will they behave today? Will they make to most of the chances offered to them. It's a 'seize the day' song! The chorus of this song should be sung in three parts. I would have year 6 on the first part, year 5 on the send part and years 3 and four on the third part. It's very simple and ends on a three part chord. There is a vocal demo, an accompaniment track, lyrics and a score. It's in a really good fun western style complete with 'yee haa' at the end!

Three Wise Men - REALLY catchy Christmas song in EASY parts!

Incredibly catchy song about the 3 wise men travelling to Bethlehem complete with harmonies and contrapuntal singing with two melodies that are easily sung. There's an ethnic element to the 'street beat' rhythm. THIS REALLY WORKS AND THE CHILDREN LOVE IT!!!! I've rescored this with easy guitar chords. The children can practise at home with the You Tube link and the learning aids on my website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qhr87dJr58 http://www.musicals4kidz.com/musicals4kidz.com/Christmas_Songs_for_Choirs.html Get in touch if you need help or more information, or wish to comment about the song. kidzmusicals@icloud.com

This song has a beautiful, simple melody with lyrics which vary only in the gift - so basically the same (easy to learn) verse sung three times, each verse highlighting the gift brought by that King. There is a short musical interlude to allow the Kings to present the gift before the next verse is sung. This is from 'Nanny's Nativity' John Gleadall kidzmusicals@icloud.com

The Poetry Song

The Poetry Song

Rising sevens asked for a song about poetry for their class assembly. We discovered that there is a worldwide dearth of poetry numbers so we made one up using the poetic "vocab - u - lary " (listen to the demo) they are learning about. You could do what we did and make up your own lyrics? If anybody really needs a score then let me know and I'll make one. kidsmusicals@icloud.com musicals4kidz

Have You Got A Room? Mary and Joseph try to get accommodation with a one finger ukulele song

Have You Got A Room? Mary and Joseph try to get accommodation with a one finger ukulele song

A dialogue in song between the Innkeeper and Mary and Joseph. There is a very simple one finger ukulele part (chord windows shown on the score). If anyone requests it I'll post a video on You Tube showing how to play it. The main feature is the grumpy Innkeeper who counterpoints the gentle melody with sharp ripostes - until the end of the song - but you know how it ends...... Ask for more information if required. Anti Bullying Song - Hurting Never Helps

Anti Bullying Song - Hurting Never Helps

A song written as a songwriting project with year 5 children. Every child in year five wrote a couple of lines using a vocabulary and ideas bank we created through discussion. Then every child sang their own (or somebody else’s ) short phrase. I edited and glued it all together with accompaniment. You could add your own lyrics - if you would like to change the structure by adding another verse or middle 8 let me know and I will change the music for you. This is now an assembly song at my school - I think it’s lovely! The demo is sung by the children who wrote it. Get in touch with me, John Gleadall, if you have any queries: kidzmusicals@icloud.com

The Donkey Song - A Christmas One Finger Ukulele Song!

The Donkey Song - A Christmas One Finger Ukulele Song!

From 'The Nativity Play' - A different kind of Christmas song from John Gleadall. It takes some effort to get this right, but I promise you it totally works; the children want to sing it and play it. It’s a one finger ukulele song and a quirky arrangement with exchanges between boys and girls. I’ve been told it’s not ‘normal’ enough for juniors but I do it every year with year 3 and they just love it. Listen to the demo - you’ll smile. You've got a demo track a backing track and a lyric sheet - if you need any help with the uke part, please get in touch - I will put a lesson on You Tube if anyone requests it. kidzmusicals@icloud.com

The Greatest Gift At Christmas - I asked the children this question - and they said...

The Greatest Gift At Christmas - I asked the children this question - and they said...

I asked the children to write their Christmas list - the stuff they really wanted this Christmas. I then asked them to pretend that they were one of the migrants displaced by war in the middle East - or they were a child in Paris (November 2015) and their Mum or big brother, or any close family member was involved in the terrorist attack. I then asked them to write another Christmas list. Suddenly the iPads and other consumer products were missing from the list. Here's what we came up with: Christmas is a window on a world of love and peace An annual reminder we want war and hate to cease We’d like to have a future of happiness and love We’d like to show the world the meaning of Christmas Christmas Christmas Christmas Open up the window and we’re sure that you will see The world is full of children who are just like you and me We only want a future and we can show the way We want the Christmas feeling everyday Christmas - A time of love and peace Christmas - A time for war to cease Christmas - Why can’t we live this way Christmas - Live Christmas everyday Just look through the window and we’re sure you will agree The greatest gift at Christmas is a loving family So families come together, unite in every land And we will make the people understand Christmas - A time of love and peace Christmas - A time for war to cease Christmas - Why can’t we live this way Christmas - Live Christmas everyday

Everything Changes - Christmas song in gospel style, my favourite song!

Everything Changes - Christmas song in gospel style, my favourite song!

A wonderful new Christmas song by John Gleadall. A reworking of ‘Away in a Manger’ in a Gospel style with a great contrapuntal chorus with three melodies coming together to finish the song. This is a challenge - but totally worthwhile, the end result is superb! There is a short musical interlude in the middle, ready for an appropriate reading as a voice over. I’ve done this from year 3 to full church choirs. This is from ‘The Nativity Play’ - also available on TES resources.: kidzmusicals@icloud.com
