Check out this fun and engaging way to take science fair the next level and make it that much more meaningful. This round-robin activity allows students in your class to visit three other projects and learn about them. Included in each section, students will record the presenter, the project, the explanation and summary of the project and then positive things they identified. They are meant to repeat this three times with a reflection at the end, but it can easily be adapted to fit your setting. Check out this simple and clear running record reference sheet. With seven pre-determined abbreviations and a blank spot for one more, this attachment is meant to be printed and stapled to the documentation for running records. This way students can reference what they need to work on and why they did well. It is intended to align to a 60 second reading fluency test. Abbreviations included are things like misread word, omitted word, skips a line, etc. This is a great way to streamline and be transparent with these acitvites!

Take your measurement unit to the next level by allowing students to apply learned concepts of measuring to the world around them. This playground hunt activity allows students to find shapes and measure them with the skills they have learned about in class, in a place they visit regularly, their playground. They will find the perimeter, and exterior measurements of each item they find. Students will draw a representation of the item they found, label its shape, identify the object, record its measurements, and find its perimeter. Check out this fun and engaging project that allows student to develop their understanding of adaptations. This project requires a tool for research such as a computer. Embedded with directions, this project allows students to work individually or collaboratively as they identify a plant or animal to research and understand. Looking specifically at adaptations, students will seek to understand how their adaptation helps them. Included is a reference sheet students will create based on their identified animal or plant as well as a tracking form for students to fill out based on their peers research.

Check out this two part simple assessment to gain insight into students' understanding of the "Predict and Test" method which builds on the idea of guess and check but uses students knowledge and prior information to make their math more meaningful. There are four total questions. The first two, include word problems that students think through how to meet basic requirements included in the sentences. The second two include addition up to the thousands place where students must show their work. This can easily be use for small group work, independent work, homework, or an assessment such as a quiz, test, or exit ticket.

This is meant to be implemented daily, which allows students to think through their day, reflect on wha they did well, and plan for the next day. Each of the simple questions is presented with a simple frowning fact, straight face, and smiling face. There are also three questions at the bottom. This serves as a great documentation form but also a meaningful way to push students to think critically about their behavior! Check out this alternative brainstorming graphic organizer that pushes students to think through topics and ideas an a different way. The identified topic begins at the top, and then students think of different ideas related to it. Though students don't need to fill up the whole chart, the idea is that they think about different words starting with different letters. This forces them to diversify their answers.
