For sale is a printable set of three bookmarks. They are formatted to print front to back. Each bookmark provides a resource for students to improve their critical thinking, comprehension, and fluency. Students are reminded of stop and think “signposts” such as repetitive words/situations, aha moments, memory moments and more. Students can also write on the back of their bookmark to jot down quick notes. This can either be printed to be reproduced or laminated to used again and again.

This 12 question assessment covers students understanding of setting and characters. There are three separate parts to this assessment that can easily be used for a quiz, test, homework, study guide, independent work or small group work. It starts off with asking for the simple definitions of each key word. It then transitions to written scenarios where students identify the implied or directly stated character(s) and setting and finishes off with two pictures that student analyze for the setting and character. This simple assessment will offer the teacher valuable insight into students' understanding of what a setting is and what the characters are.

The assessment starts with directions, to students know what to do, to be successful, followed by a short paragraph explaining the conditions of the event. The bottom portion of the assessment includes prompts for students to dive into the story and draw out the important components that need to be included in an invitation. This can easily serve as a worksheet for independent work, small group, whole group, homework or as a quiz, test, or exit ticket.

Being transparent with students on the standard of assessment and grades is a great way to implement high expectations as well as set them up to be successful. This rubric includes four major components of oral fluency in any regard, whether it be an oral presentation, reading, group work or any other context. These components include expression and volume, phrasing, smoothness, and pace. Each component includes a possibility of four points totaling 16 points total. That number can then be multiplied by 6.25 to place it out of 100. This is a great way to hold your students accountable and document assessment to allow for reflection and improvement and a skill that is highly necessary and often neglected.
