I use the symbols in each box as a code when live marking. THis means that the student has to assess their wok and think about how to improve rather than being given the answer. The codes are linked directly to the AOs with two codes making up each AO. If they include “What” and “where” they will hit AO1. If they include “Why” and “What does it mean” they hit AO2 If they include “Where” and “Whta does it mean” they hit AO3

THIS IS A WIN/WIN!!! STUDENTS AND TEACHERS LOVE LIVE MARKING. They get instant feedback so can see how to improve and they get 1 to 1 attention from the teacher about there work and the teacher reduces workload as they are providing feedback in the lesson time not wading through answers later. I have been using this marking code successfully alongside the lesson I have produced for the 2016 spec GCSE. I use this code throughout my planned lessons. The Live marking code is a grid that I have printed and displayed in my classroom and in the front of each of the student’s books. When live marking as students answer the tasks that are intergral to my lesson structure I will circulate the class and add in a hand drawn version of the grid with only the shapes that they need to improve on drawn in. (E.G - an answer with no AO3 explanation of how the answer links to the question will have the + drawn in. The Helpmat is again on my wall display and sits laminated on each desk for the students to use to help them structure answers to tasks within my lessons. The symbols are linked to the Live marking code and have greatly increased my students understanding of how to answer GCSE style questions.

First lesson in a River Unit for AQA GCSE geography. This lesson introduces many of the ideas that will be taught later in this unit and explains the changes in long and cross profile seen with progression downstream.

Europe Scheme of Work (15 lessons) Key Stage 3

This is a KS 3 Scheme of Work that uses Europe as a theme from which to teach many geographical skills. The focus is on key words and geographical literacy. I do not cover ‘topics’ each SoW looks at a new continent and each of the geographical themes I have chosen to feature is represented in each SoW. This aids recall as students are regularly thinking back to work completed last term, or further, to inform the work they are completing. Regular recall questions ensure that the knowledge is strongly embedded.
