Reception/Year 1 Pirate Treasure Map Reading activity linked to topic on pirates and seaside. Includes a blank treasure map, a key vocabulary mat and a set of 9 differentiated activity cards. Learning objectives ALL I must match pictures to the correct letter sound at the beginning of the word. I must match pictures to the correct letter sound at the end of the word. MOST I should find and read words which have double letters. SOME I should identify words which have more than one syllable. Powerpoint Poem about the colour RED. EYFS/KS1. Simple rhyming couplets which I wrote myself to introduce a topic on colour recognition, help pupils learn the colour red and identify red objects around them. Lots of ‘red’ photos and a humorous ending which young children can relate to. Links with cross curricular topics on ‘Colour’, ‘Rainbows’, ‘All around me’ and Literacy ‘Poetry’.

KS1 Autumn Maths data handling graph. Five Autumn objects for pupils to find on a walk. Ks1 & 2 shark ID mat. Photos of 16 sharks for pupils to use as part of a research activity or game. Research on laptops and ipads common features of sharks using the mat as a stimulus. Put a shark image on the whiteboard and ask the children to identify the shark and its features as part of a game. Play ' shark bingo'. Print and laminate 2 pairs of images of each shark and play 'shark snap' or ' shark pairs' in a small group.

A KS1 power-point of 40 slides about the life of Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing, hospitals and hygiene today. The slides are supported ith key questions for pupils based upon simple data and information gathering and prior knowledge about hospitals, germs and infection control. There is a link to a Youtube clip about the life of Florence Nightingale and a range of cross curricular activities to develop knowledge of the Crimea War and the impact of Florence’s work. The final slides focus on the features of a leaflet and include a template of a leaflet scaffolded for the pupils to write about ‘Hand washing’ and share with their families. This power-point can be used as a discrete lesson or to dip into to support teaching about the different aspects of Florence Nightingale’s life and work. The slides are structured to maximise paired and small group talk and activities.

KS1 & 2 RE : A Christening Mystery. A powerpoint lesson beginning with twelve clues of images, a sound bite and questions which build up into a Christening celebration. Pupils work in small groups of three and four and are guided through the problem solving slides via key questions and discussion/written tasks to try to help Lewis solve which celebration has taken place using the clues from the mystery box found in his attic. Pupils are encouraged to learn key vocabulary (font, Holy water, pew, aisle etc) and discuss the celebration possibilities giving reasons for their thoughts as the clues emerge. Slides 20-23 offer simple factual information about Christenings and include a painting of ‘The Baptism of Christ’ (Da Vinci) and images of stained glass windows. The final slide offers a simple photocopiable activity for pupils to complete on what three wishes they would give to a baby and an opportunity to write about/find out about how they were named – a class or homework follow up task.

Florence Nightingale's Facebook page can be used as a reference for information gathering for work on biographies, non fiction writing, comprehension, discussion work and as a template for writing a Facebook page about a non fiction famous character or person. Can be used with KS1 and KS2.
