I have created a powerpoint that helps students to answer a 6 mark question "Sodium chloride is an ionic compound, containing sodium ions, Na+, and chloride ions, Cl–. Figure 10 shows the electronic configuration of sodium and chlorine.Explain how sodium and chlorine atoms form the ions in sodium chloride and how the ions are arranged in the solid sodium chloride. You may wish to use diagrams in your answer. The powerpoint has an attached A3 work sheet that has broken the question down into 5 mini questions. The Aim is to complete this work sheet with the help of the powerpoint and the science text book in order to be able to answer the 6 mark question at the end of the lesson. This uses metacognition. recall, instruct, model, Guide, practice and reflect

The resource covers 2 lessons and is aimed at KS3 students to be able to write an essay with scientific language. the question: “Why is a table made from a solid, and not a liquid or gas?” Lesson one: this helps student answer 5 Questions on a spider diagram in order to formulate their essay. powerpoint and work sheet attached Lesson two: this lesson is about using the spider diagram to write an essay answering the question. once finished there is a mark sheet for students to mark each others work
