Animal sampling and indoor quadrats

Two work sheets. For the indoor practical you need a sand tray, magnets, miniature quadrats (can be made with card or paper) paperclips and staples. The animal sampling sheet could be used as a homework or with ICT facilities. I co-ran these in the same lesson.

Could be used for top set year 8's or middle year 9's. Slide 4 should be printed out and used as a worksheet. Somewhat of a rehash of another teacher's work - cannot take credit for starter!

Potato Osmosis Experiment Write Up Guide

This is a generalized template I use. I change the beginning few pages to suit a particular experiment - in this case potato osmosis. This is forYear 10 MYP but could be changed for GCSE or KS3 or even 16+ courses. Students using this should ideally have completed practical investigations in previous years. In the graphing section I often use a video from YouTube to help support, or draw a graph with students.

Science Practical Investigations Template

This resource can be used as a template for students to write-up a practical investigation in science. It contains guidance around terms such as “independent variable” etc. Suited to middle - higher streamed classes. This is a fairly detailed write-up so would suit projects, though you can use the sections independently, depending on your focus. Part 1 - Planning an Investigation Part 2 - Results and Conclusion Part 3 - Evaluation The guide prompts students as to what they need to include in each section.
