As an ESL teacher, I was frustrated over the lack of quality resources for introducing important grammar concepts to ESL | EFL beginning level students. Most trade books don’t do this well or offer too little practice for optimal retention of the target skills. So, I decided to create my own resources. Each new skill is introduced with a student study guide/chart. My students keep these charts handy and use them as reference tools as they work through the material. Each new skill also comes with plenty of activities. These activities allow students to apply the new skill in multiple contexts. No English Newcomer Emergency Pack 2

Whether you’re a content teacher with one or two beginner level English Language Learners or an ESL specialist working with older students, this pack is for you! Thousands of teachers are currently enjoying Newcomer Pack 1 and have requested additional units. Here they are! As with my original Newcomer Pack, this pack is designed for students new to the English Language to be able to work relatively independently. If you’re one of those teachers who cheerfully receive new students in the middle of the school year who don’t speak a word of English and you are currently teaching Catcher in the Rye to your tenth graders, you might want to pick this up. Likewise, if you are an English Language specialist and find that much of the material available does not provide enough exposure to vocabulary and beginner concepts, you will also find this resource helpful. Use this to introduce new vocabulary, concepts, homework, fast finishers, etc. Please note that Newcomer Pack 2 contains six brand new units and are not contingent upon Newcomer Pack 1. So, if you don’t have Newcomer Pack 1, no worries. If you are a teacher of English Language Learners, you might find it useful to use the anchor charts and activities to introduce new skills and vocabulary or reinforce concepts already taught. You may also like that the activities provide multiple exposure to vocabulary/skills. (I often find that most activities in trade books don’t offer enough exposure to target skills/vocabulary). I also find it useful to have my students keep the study guides handy for reference and use them during classwork time or homework. Unit one introduces months of the year, days of the week, writing dates, school subjects, and asking and answering “when” questions. Unit two focuses on human body vocabulary, cardinal numbers, and simple use of the verbs “is” and “are.” Unit three introduces ordinal numbers and time. School Subjects, days of the week, and months of the year are reinforced with these new skills. Repetition is key for retention. Unit four introduces physical feelings vocabulary and common antonyms. Unit five encompasses physical ailments and emotions. Unit six introduces the four seasons, seasonal verbs, and seasonal clothing.
