The Pirate Game (End of Term Activity)

This, is the Pirate Game! It is amazing! I 'play&' this with my classes at the end of each term. Feel free to message me for further details of the game if needed. I have tried to provide as much info in the guide on how the game works. I have adapted this from the one my mentor on my GTP used.

Y11 Homework Sheets (B-A* Grade)

(42)
These are the homework sheets I have been using with my top set Y11 class. They cover 10 different topics aimed at them achieving A/A*s in their GCSE examinations. Topics covered: Surds, Bounds, Algebraic Fractions, Probability, Recurring Decimals, Indices, Factorising, Sim Equations + more. For C-B grade h/w sheets see my other resource. http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk Now with answers included!

Y11 Higher (C/B Grade) Homework Sheets

(34)
Inspired by http://goo.gl/EUD8Mu I have created 20 Higher Tier h/w sheets for students aiming to get a C/B grade. The sheets alternate between non-calc and calc h/ws and will be used in Term 1 this year. I will then use some B/A grade h/w sheets (watch this space) in Term 2/3. These sheets are aimed at giving students revision of the topics needed to achieve C/B grades in their GCSEs.

(25)
I have recently created this presentation to run through with my Y11s in preparation for their GCSE Mathematics exams. The topics covered are: Stem & Leaf Diagrams, Scatter Graphs, Frequency Polygons, Questionnaires, Estimate of the mean from a grouped frequency table, Cumulative Frequency Curves, Box Plots, Stratified Random Sampling, Probability Tree Diagrams, Histograms and Two Way Tables. I've highlighted key points for each topic that students need to remember. A3 sheets with questions now uploaded for students to use as you go through presentation!

KS3 Data Handling Project

(23)
This is a 6 week 'homework&' project I have created for my set 1 Y9 class. I have saved the ppt as a pdf to give to each of them as a guide to their h/w over the 6 week period. The idea is that this guidance allows them to create their own data handling project including as many aspects of the topics we have covered in class as possible. For more information on how I intend to use this and the feedback once I have had all projects submitted check out my blog: http://mrcollinsmaths.blogspot.co.uk

Mathematical Pictionary Game

(27)
I have created a Mathematics version of Pictionary. Encouraging mathematical language. To create the game cards I just printed off the slides (4 on a page) and then double sided them and laminated. They work great in class - especially for revision with Year 11s. For more info on the game see my blog post http://mrcollinsreflectivejournal.blogspot.com/2011/12/mathematical-pictionary.html I hope your classes enjoy.

This is a PowerPoint I created based on the resource uploaded by Manoj Mistry, which can be found here http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/GCSE-Revision-of-basic-skills-powerpoint-6173598/, I have changed the layout of questions to break them up and have added GCSE grades to each question. My Year 11 class have responded well to these slides!

Here's a set of 50 Mathematics Taboo Cards I have created; easy to change the Key words/taboo words as needed. I print these out, laminate them and then use them in class for revision or as a starter activity to engage students. Good for literacy across the curriculum.

Mathematics 4 pics 1 word - Polygons

Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum. This set includes the words: quadrilateral, hexagon, pentagon, octagon, interior, exterior, degrees, sum, regular and irregular. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce the topic of polygons and then look at the interior and exterior angles of regular/irregular polygons!?

This is a ppt I put together for my Y10 class sitting their Edexcel (Linked Pair Pilot) METHODS in Mathematics GCSE examinations. I tried to put on all the key formulae they'd need to remember that is not given on the examination formulae sheet.

Based on a popular app, and having taken inspiration from the ideas of @reflectivemaths and @srcav, I have created my own Mathematics version to add a bit of literacy across the curriculum. This set includes the words: cube, net, face, edge, vertex, construction and triangle. I hope these are of use as starters to introduce topics. I used them with mini whiteboards and got students to write the word and a definition for it. Differentiated by hiding letters to choose from initially and then revealing them if class struggled. For low ability I would reveal letters at the start.

In order to use just change the names, class, my name etc and then hit F5 to run slideshow, names will automatically rotate until you hit 'S&' on the keypad for stop. Resume the slideshow by hitting &';P' (for play!)

The Vedic Square - Worksheet

(9)
KS2/ KS3 Worksheet. I love this! I was Tweeted a link to the following site: http://mathormagic.com/vedic_square by @toots2106 (Chris Talbot) [TES name: chris2106] This is the Vedic Square. A 9 by 9 grid that reveals patterns from the sums of the mutiplications of the numbers. Students work through the w/sheet that I have created based on the website's activity and produce all the different Vedic patterns for each digit from 1-9. I can&'t wait to use this... UPDATED to include completed grids
