Pockets Change Financial Literacy: Insurance

This is an excerpt from the complete Pockets Change Financial Literacy Curriculum, which teaches students personal finance skills, entrepreneurship, stock market, and real estate basics. All lessons are also tied to common core and national standards. They are differentiated and use experiential learning techniques and help students hone 21st century learning skills. Students will explore the different kinds of insurance available to them and, in groups, create and perform a story/play that incorporates a variety of situations where insurance would have been a good idea to have. In performing the story, a percentage of their score will go towards how well the rest of the class was able to identify the various types of insurance that would be necessary in the situations the group presented. This lesson includes standards, activity description, key terms, assessment, and all necessary worksheets.

Pockets Change Literacy: Advertising Tactics Part 1

This is an excerpt from the complete Pockets Change Financial Literacy Curriculum, which teaches students personal finance skills, entrepreneurship, stock market, and real estate basics. All lessons are also tied to common core and national standards. They are differentiated and use experiential learning techniques and help students hone 21st century learning skills. In this lesson, students learn various advertising tactics that are used to convince them to buy things. They then take these same advertising tactics to develop an image for their businesses and create ad campaigns for print and TV. They will eventually present these ads to their peers.
